A master toggle for each of these Attack/Medic/Blocks that overrides all other settings for all squad-members, whether the squad-member(s) are selected or not.
Currently this seems to be an individual toggle. The problem comes when some are set defensive
and some are not, but all are selected - if I hit "Blocks", it just reverses the status for all selected parties - forcing me to tic each member individually. This is monotonous at 10 members, but at 20/30/40? I would want to kill actual people.
Attack would simply have all members attack their nearest threat source. Medic should force all members to just heal selves + one another and Blocks should force everyone into defensive stance.
I think that this would be very helpful when trying to regroup and perform holding actions and would help make some of the annoying types of micromanagement unnecessary.
A mechanical request:

one thing i hate is when im trying to heal my guy and even if i have him on stay 99% of the time he'll try to go attack enemies unless i bring him really far away and wont heal.

I second this notion.
Really, stuff that makes it easier to manage a large group is always good, since micro-management can really bog down a game when you're managing groups past a certain size (for me, that number lies around 6~7).

In a similar vein, maybe a small icon that appears in the bottom right of a character's portrait that displays what mode they are in.
I think a tree-view of characters would certainly help, like naming individual squads and clicking on the squad name to select all or form up or something. What about an auto-follow the leader button? Where all squad members but the leader follow the leader. Just some thoughts, though. A toggle All Defensive button would be nice. Perhaps an All Medic button would be useful as well, for those that don't want to centralize healing to one medic.
Hi all !
Select all from anywhere in the empire..... press + and ~ just saying in case anyone didn't know
Left hand bottom info box, displays characters current action and combat mode ie:defensive/normal.
Follow/guard the leader, select all but the leader, right mouse button hold over leader, select from drop down menu follow/guard.
Toggle all defensive.Select all then click Blocks.I agree this needs to be a master toggle and there needs be individual Offense/Blocks buttons.
Toggle medic all, select all click medic.I don't have a problem with this at the moment.
You shouldn't be able to heal in combat,so keep a medic away from agro range and keep an eye on your parties health ie: If you see lotsa red floaties above one of your characters then get him out of the fight for medical care or at least set him to defensive/Blocks.
Further in the games development the bearded one is going to implement carrying your wounded away from the fight which will be needed if/when characters start dieing from wounds if not treated asap.
Just remember that the medical system in the games current state in no way represents the final product.
But yeah, some refinement on the toggable actions will be nice.
What I'm looking forward to is control groups or a viewable army tree like mentioned earlier,so I can just click the group on that tree and be taken to them or alter their actions from where I am.
At the moment if/when I split up my full party I have to make a list of who I've sent where or go by memory ( not likely
).
Right now all I can do is right click through all the portraits until I find the guy/group I want.

I agree with the idea of creating an viewable army tree . An interface with a list of minions split into different selectable units would be far better than the conventional "Hold shift and press a number" method. ( a little more work to create(the interface), but by far better). As for the "master unison sort buttons", yeah it would be a quick way to shift your forces stance under changing conditions.

I do plan to eventually make a system where you group them into squads. I'll also make the block button set everyone the same, and add an "attack everybody" button.
If you want more control of healing you can target characters for first aid. the Medic button is automatic so a character will decide who needs it first, and will also fight instead if him or his patient is under attack (rather than heal while getting stabbed in the back). Unless you are noticing any bugs in this behavior.
