as the game gets going and people get more involved into the game, i thought i would start up the 1,000 hour club for Kenshi players.
1,000 hours for what you might ask?
well confirmed hours via software tracking from services like steam or raptr or other tracking services.
Now you're asking what for?
the answer is unknown. but am sure we can think of something. maybe some free digital art posters or a raffle to win a free soundtrack CD or digital download of it. or maybe Chris might toss something in as an extra prize.
I personally have a extra Key that i can offer as a giveaway prize, so i am willing to offer that up.
So what would be the rules?
well one has to have a verifiable 1,000 hours into the game. ( Except for me since im gonna host this little contest ) then post your best 5 pictures or fanfic detailing your game play best moment. Then we put that up to vote, and the winner would get 1 extra Kenshi key to do with as they wish and if anyone else wants to add to the pot that would be nice as well.
this is just an idea so please share your thoughts.
i set a date for 90 days to discuss this so after that time i'll decide if the contest will go forward or not and what amount of verifiable hours we will use. So After that time i'll lock this topic and start the contest or not. I have already thought of a 365 day time limit on the contest itself.

I'll hit 1,000 hours for sure eventually, maybe not for a long while... maybe not even until the full release but I will get there. I had a lot invested before the game was on steam and even then i didn't transfer over right away so many of my hours are lost never to be seen.
1,000 hours doesn't seem like too much... I mean it is a lot of hours though. It is a club, a club for Kenshi players... only the decorated should be allowed to enter it.

I've put in several hundred hours, but as the Steam version wasn't out and I never fooled with anything like Raptr, I have no way of knowing how long I've spent in Kenshi precisely. It's probably better this way, seeing that I've spent 443 hours in Terraria or 305 hours in Starbound, and knowing I picked them up for a fraction of the price of South Park: The Stick of Truth or Bioshock Infinite (13 and 18 hours respectively) is kind of depressing.

thats why asking if that might be to high of a number,
or if anyone has any other ideas that might work as well.

I'm going to say that it's somewhat difficult to put 1000 hours into a game, don't get me wrong I've got over 1000 hours logged in Prime World and I only played it for a span of less than six months. However, a ton of that was while I was AFK or asleep, since there was a resource acquisition minigame that meant it was useful to basically leave it on any time I would be anywhere near my PC.
Reducing the pool to people who have spent 1000 hours in the game would increase the chances for those that could enter, however I'm willing to bet that not a lot of them would present themselves. Even 250 hours would seem to be a substantial hurdle for people to acquire without basically just firing up Kenshi's launcher, which Steam will see as them being in Kenshi, and leaving it sit there until they cross the magic threshold.
Personally I would say that a new Kenshi player who is able to tell a story that is more entertaining than someone who has a pool of hundreds of hours of gameplay to draw from has achieved as much or more just in doing so. My vote is more along the lines of have a creative contest, or have a drawing that pulls names out of a hat based on maybe 1 chance to win for every 100 hours spent in Kenshi. Something that requires both seems to either undermine the creative part of the process, or create incentive for an entrant to be disingenuous with their total hours played.

You... have caused me to embark upon something terrible. I basically created a new hardcore rule for this. The ruleset: Perpetual Kenshi.
Rule 1: auto saves only. (Excluding the daily save backup in case of corruption or whatever).
Rule 2: The spirit of Kenshi is that you are not the main character, the world is always moving regardless of your actions. So Kenshi must be on at all times, whether you're able to supervise it or not.
Rule 3: Go with it. No matter how good or bad your game is, if you still have survivors, then you must try to continue. Even if you come back to work to find 19 characters dead, and one in a cannibal cage with broken legs.
Rule 4: Journal. Make sure to record your tragic story.
We'll see how this goes.

the amount of hours i put into kenshi especially in the early pre-steam versions is likely staggering. Im thinking about all the bug reporting, testing, raiding every town in game multiple times, spending enough time to lvl up characters over 100... good thing i dont have an actual hour count, or those 3 million cats i made might seem like a poor tradeoff.

My thoughts exactly Mattk
I kept swiping down the whole map. Go through every single city, stealing full backpacks from every trader, just to import squad to new safe and start over. In my longest running game, I had 3 warriors who could take down any city alone! One versus full city! They were running alone killing every one and rest of my team stayed in one group doing the same
If my "weaklings" ran into trouble (rare!) One of my super warriors came to rescue.
I think my save got corrupted at some point
But there's no way single squad could get through the whole developing process. And I managed to do couple bug/crash reports. I hope at least some of them helped
[EDIT]
Found some pic from Imgur. I think this was my very first try at raiding a town. Dem feels
I don't remember how it went though... Looking at the body count on both sides, I think it at least wasn't a bad try
The first three became the top dogs later. Also Jesus was progressing pretty well with topper. And I loved Mr. Loco with plank
Oh... Dem feels

Here's what i think you should do:Hatsune_Neko wrote:1,000 hours for what you might ask?
1: Change the requirements to being a review of the game as-well as cool screenshots and 1000 hrs.
2: Have Chris add content in the game (however big or small) from these players, so everyone knows what they did.
The result of this can only be good as Kenshi would receive masses of positive reviews by players with Huge amounts of games hours to back what they say.

I've mentioned this a few times before probably, but i still have my original save with those godly characters and one day i intend to mod them in with the same skills (and updated gear, the old stuff isnt around anymore) just as a squad that roams around my game world. Hopefully i wont anger them.

Along the lines of the storytelling focus...
You could make it a contest of the most crazy or interesting thing that has happened to someone, put in the form of a story. Screenshots would be required, to verify it actually happened, but the person would be given some creative license to be a little melodramatic.
"Sand Ninjas came to the settlement and beat my five guys" could turn into...
"Three days had passed since the creation of our little outpost. It wasn't much; four or five buildings in total. There were only five of us there, so we were busy constantly; trying to mine stone, and then process that stone into building materials...
...nearing the end of a long day of labor, we were wearily turning to our beds when we saw them on the horizon. Half a dozen Sand Ninjas--and they were headed right for us. We couldn't run. We couldn't hide. There was nothing to do but stand and fight. We glanced at one another, knowing in our hearts that they would best us. Then, with a war whoop, we charged."
Kind of changes the goal of the thing, but I'd agree that storytelling ability is better than someone just having been through a thousand hours. Plus, for someone like me, who plays offline, Steam doesn't record hours in-game, so there's no way I'd ever be able to verify anything.

Jack of all trades, master of none.
If you count the hours I've put into this since stumbling across it on desura back in 2010-ish i think I'm pretty far up there but not quite 1000 hours. 1000 hours of game play is a lot, one of the most well played games ive invested in such as gw2 and skyrim didn't get 1000 hours, with 640 hours in gw2 and 370 hours in skyrim. The game has mechanics in place to play afk though, and if the game were to be stable enough to run overnight suddenly 1000 hours isn't so difficult anymore. Food for thought i guess.

for me putting in 1,000 hours into a game is rather easy
some games i got about 15,000 or more ( Second Life, Master of Orion 3 to name a few )
Europa Universals and Hearts of Iron games routinely get about 3,000 to 5,000 from me. and i expect to put in about the same amount into Kenshi, and a slew of other games that are out now or will be soon will get the same attention.
But thats just me. i work from home so i have lots of extra free time.
