Currently, the working AI in this game is outstanding. BUT it is too robotic. You assign someone to work a machine, and they do it, no questions asked.

To make things more organic, higher skilled squad mates, if idle, or if ordered, should be able to teach/supervise. This would add some extra animations(yelling, face-palming, slapping and thumbs up if they do it right ), but would give a great bonus to leveling up the necessary skills.

Furthermore, machinery is DANGEROUS, so leaving a rookie unsupervised near a stone processor 5 should be dangerous. There should be a safe minimum for operating machinery to prevent workplace mishaps. If a mishap does occur, a squad mate can turn the machine off, and maybe someone can make a new arm for the poor sap.

Sounds good. But just how dangerous should the accidents be? Instant death should definitely be out of the question.

Instant death should not happen, but the machines SHOULD take a persons arm off.

However,

To level up medic, you can assign a rookie as a "safety observer", and they can run over and shut the machine off before someone gets hurt, AND do first aid.

You are a horrible person, but that is a wonderful idea. Then again, general bandaging doesn't cover missing limbs.

that's what a tourniquet is for. yeah, they will lose a limb, but at least they will not be dead.

Plus limb replacement will be a thing soon.
