A minor gripe about the New Character Creator.
Ok, so there are some interesting new features in the creator that I like. I love the idle stances, for one. That adds a sort of personality. But there's something that bothers me greatly about the faces...
I honestly very much dislike them... There seems to be only one face, with a minor shift in colors of the same texture with different eyes, then it's left to the sliders.. The sliders.. That is my main gripe. I feel like the 0 point should be more like the 30 or even 40 mark on basically all of those. The starting face was not to my liking, and i went to the sliders to adjust them (like making the mouth width slightly shorter, or the nose a little more intro). To my grief, they were all on 0 already and could not be reduced any further. The only option is to make it look even worse for me than it already does...
The faces to me overall look sorta um... zombieish.. like. Creepily so.. soulless demons.. I really honestly liked two of the older faces, and I was saddened to see them go. The current faces to me honestly look like years of exposure to some sort of acid in the air. Subtle, but strong enough to cause corrosions that just give off a very unbeautiful look...

I think the weirdness is created from...
1. Wide cheekbones
2. Abnormally large skull
3. Far apart eyes
Either the wrong forum section or you forgot to actually post your request
I personally don't mind it that much. I don't think they were going for beautiful people nor would i want them to make everyone some kind of supermodel.
That said an option for some more visually appealing faces would definitely not hurt.. Especially the female faces leave a lot to be desired. And i agree that the sliders need to be centered instead of defaulting on 0 which leaves room for very little change.
EDIT: ok so after having played it on my PC which is faaar more powerful than my laptop which made it look crappy.. idk now i'm actually really loving the ugly and rough look of the characters. While the options could still be there to make them more appealing, currently i really really like them!
And woot! your characters now finally get visually muscular a lot faster! nggg!

Eek! yep, shoulda been in gameplay, that's where i meant to post this.. I'll have a mod move it, thanks!Chompster wrote:Either the wrong forum section or you forgot to actually post your request
I didn't really mean to say that they should all look literally beautiful. I was meaning more so they are just too unappealing to me and it's driving me nuts. (I'm a very aesthetic person and i just can't.. x_x)Chompster wrote:I personally don't mind it that much. Yeah, no i definitely get what you're saying. I think it's more due to them not having finished all assets yet or just having done these and holding off on doing the rest.Zeal wrote:I didn't really mean to say that they should all look literally beautiful. Especially the women were hit the hardest the faces you can choose either look like they're zombies or some kind of skin disease where clear difference in head and neck textures and body textures.
But again, i think it just comes down to them having finished these, and they'll make more in the future. Also really hope that the sliders aren't final. Sliders should never be defaulted on 0(zero) unless you can go into the negative. It should always be in the center.

Do you believe the sexes should be equal?
Oh heavens no.
Then Men would become unmanageable
Current computer specs.

NVidia GTX 1050TI

Yeah. I actually didn't even look at the guys.. That didn't cross my mind. I was talking about the female characters.Chompster wrote:

Just asked Chris about this. The 0 position of the sliders - that isn't final, he's just been too distracted with other bugs to fix it. More customisation will be added eventually, particularly for the Shek faces because they don't have much facial customisation currently.
For the humans, they still need chin width and possibly chin length sliders. Does anybody have any other requests for important customisable features they think are missing that might help?

Well another thing that has been bothering me are the hair color sliders. They are a total hassle to use and only enable me to create characters with the following hair colors:
black, white ... and "clown" (or call it "anime" - depending on your viewpoint) ... looks like crap either way
A color wheel or something in that direction (and some natural hair color presets for black, blond, brown etc.) would be a nice feature
The "random" buttons are also a bit weird at the moment, since they are not doing much.
Would it be possible to implement checkboxes to choose wich features are randomized? Total randomization will probably lead us to create armies of horrendous freaks ... which is nice if you actually want to have them, and not if you want good looking ones

I saw someone on Steam having a hard time with the sliders too.. but I think it's pretty cool.HalbesEi wrote:Well another thing that has been bothering me are the hair color sliders. They are a total hassle to use and only enable me to create characters with the following hair colors:

For example if you want brown hair, just fully turn up the saturation and brightness, choose a yellowish brown color and adjust the brightness slider.. tada!

And personally i found the old hair color sliders to allow for a lot more options. Maybe its still the same and iv just not gotten used to it but for some reason this new way(from 4 to 3 sliders i believe) feels a lot more restricting.
I actually like the new bar better, and can seem to get whatever i need in much less time than before... Mixing the rgb correctly was a hassle for one specific character. ( i always neglected to writedown/memorize the perfect combination, and getting it even marginally close to the right hue alone took way too long.. ) This time around it was much easier. I think though that a color wheel might be a nice addition, but at the same time I would like to keep numbers visible.. I SHOULD have been memorizing those numbers, as doing so would land you perfect each and every time, and you just can't do that on a color wheel.HalbesEi wrote:Well another thing that has been bothering me are the hair color sliders. I noticed the current faces have blemishes/spots on the faces for texture I'm assuming. It would be cool if you could have a slider to make the blemishes more transparent or more visible. Or even have a slider that changes what kind of blemishes you have on that characters face (if any at all). Which could also come with the options of scars etc.
As previously stated a tattoo slider would be great. You could even add a special Tattooist character like the plastic surgeon, Who would allow you to add more and more tattoos to your character.
If those options were pulled from folder under the root, we could upload our own images and have them show up in the game. Just give us an template for each arm, legs, chest and back. You could then have players sharing their custom tats on the forum.

I would think that eye color customized or at least have presets with all the natural eye colors would be good. i was really underwhelmed when i realized there was no male face with green eyes. And everyone looks like they just went cold turkey after a week long drug bender - it's like sunday morning at burning man. it's nasty. Maybe fix that up somehow, like remove the bags from under their eyes. How come no one is smiling? Why you gotta be so serious in a world where no one invented guns and you can grow all the hemp you want?

Perhaps slaves could be a decal tattoo on there face, which would visualize the Slave status one gets when put into slavery, the plastic surgeon could remove this and therefor remove the Slave/Escaped slave status?swillo wrote:As previously stated a tattoo slider would be great. Hello,
I am posting from work so I can't verify if what i will suggest still works.
There are .cfg files in the kenshi installation folder that define the maximum and minimum for every slider in the character editor. (Or, at least, they were there and worked in the 0.69.x version)
They should be under data and have pretty explicit names.
Cheers
