So I was in Clownsteady being chased by a sand ninja jounin. The ninja proceeded to defeat and eventually kill all of my squad. My question is, why did the town police and mercenaries not attack the ninja? Is this a bug or an intentional thing? If intentional then there is no point in having police anywhere.
Also, when we were laying there dying, I was wondering why no one was coming to help us. You could say that the inhabitants of Clownsteady weren't involved in that fight, but that doesn't mean that we should simply be left to die. Maybe have the police do something for us at least?
Sand Ninja Jounin (bounty:5000) not attacked by guards?

I've noticed that this happens with a lot of aggressive enemies. For example, if I run in to a town that doesn't hate me with a bunch of Beak Things following behind, the police and mercs won't attack the Beak Things unless I engage the Beaks in combat. However, if you run in to a town that doesn't hate you with Dust Bandits following behind, the police and mercs may attack. It may have to do with how the different factions are associated with one another. In your situation it may be that the Sand Ninjas and Clownsteady don't have any beef with each other.

I too am having this problem i don't recall seeing that feature in a change log so it could be a in my opinion a very difficult bug to deal with i wouldn't go as far to say game breaking. Im going to keep my eye on this to see what comes of this post

a rather good idea.Rikter wrote:If I were a police chief in the town I'd have a problem with people fighting within the walls. If anything, I'd imprison the fighters after patching them up, and require them to pay a fee or wait a while to get out.
But i did see something like this happen at Holy Temple. Holy paladins ignored a bunch of bandits attacking me. which is odd, usually they help me. haven't had issues with this possible bug in some time.

I noticed in 0.74.14:
0.74.14
-More stability fixes
-Fixed athletics penalty not showing in armour tooltip
-Paladin and mercenary guards should now protect you in town
That they still do not protect me? It was once again sand ninjas that attacked. I ran into town, the mercenaries did nothing. It was also, once again, in Clownsteady.
It was only after I was knocked unconscious that the guards did something, and I think that was because the sand ninjas attacked them.

It isn't just sand ninjas. Had this happen with dogs, and both kinds of bandits. In fact, they did nothing to patch up my guys after the fights either. Fortunately I was able to defeat all 3 groups after a bit of difficulty and getting knocked around (and down) quite a bit. But the guards, police, and mercenaries all do nothing, literally. They walk by as groups fight in the town walls and don't even bother patching anyone up afterwards.
The other odd part of my experiences with this is that if I was beaten by any of these enemies, they simply left town rather than attacking the guards like they should, even if I was a priority, which makes no sense, but seeing as how this is an Alpha I'm throwing any conventional targeting system to the wind, since I imagine this is just one of the great many things on a list to do/finish/improve.

Same.. o.o though i usually shrug it off as "They didn't like me enough to help" or "It wasn't their problem so why should they help? " ^.^
though it does add to the fun for me a bit because you might be running for your life reach somewhere you think is safe only to realize they don't wanna help ...which in the wild west wouldn't be that uncommon. and this kinda similar to then.
I even ran in front of a trade/slavers camp o.o not sure which it had 4 stone mines in it with like 20 people manning cross bows on each wall.
an they didn't help me
but i was fortunately faster then the bandits an eventually lost them. same with dogs >.> though if dogs ever get given the ability to tackle you while you run an use that as the way to catch you
i imagine alot more people will become doggy chow.
i think there should be a 'help' button though. that you can use that might have the guards try to break up the fight an figure out whats going on. not so much immediately commit to helping .
after all sometimes you don't want people to interfere in your duel/fights. an when they investigate they should try to determine whose the provacator an whose not. after all sometimes we're the ones attacking the bandits ...so technically we're in the wrong they shouldn't always assume the people following you are at fault.
Especially since odds are they haven't met those bandits before. which means as far as they know those bandits are hapless citizens who were defending themselves instead.

I really like the idea of a "Help!" button. That way the town doesn't necessarily have to die over a fight you accidentally brought to the town, such as a Leviathan.Chinsei wrote: i think there should be a 'help' button though. that you can use that might have the guards try to break up the fight an figure out whats going on. not so much immediately commit to helping .
