slavery question
So squadmates can get captured and forced to work. My question is do they still gain XP when working as a slave? Will we be able to sell or abandon people to the slavers and buy back or rescue them when they are competent miners?
I don't get why you would want your people to temporarily be anyone's slave. Why let them improve their laboring skill mining for someone else when they could do so mining for you?Frozen wrote:So squadmates can get captured and forced to work. Even if that were the case, I'm sure your characters will suffer while in servitude to slavers once survival needs were implemented. Perhaps starvation and dehydration causing your character to not gain experience while working under slavery condition.Revage wrote:I would guess he's anticipating the future need for food and water, and bypassing that by farming out labor to slavers.
It's possible the idea is that they're somehow marked or branded, like some cultures did with their slaves, so that if they escaped they were easy to spot or find and therefore returned to their owner. Obviously a mark or brand like that is meant to be permanent, so even after being freed they'd still have said mark/brand, but I imagine they was some way of notating that they're freed and not escaped so as to avoid any problems with that. Anyways, my point is, it may be intentional that the slave tag never goes away for the physical reasons I stated above. It may also be the tags aren't working correctly, as there is a problem with town guards not attacking certain faction units that they should without needing provocation.
Seems to go away when you do an import.Xengeance wrote:Does the (SLAVE) tag ever get removed from a squad mate once they've been "freed"? Even with having 0% Looks Like a Slave it doesn't seem to go away.
At least it did with the slaves that I had with the last update.
Will we be able to buy slaves an put them to work/free them for ourselves? o.o an if so how will that work i mean i wouldn't want to have direct control of the slave o.o but having him fill a worker slot would be nice.
but odds are if i bought a slave i'd unshackle him an ask him to work an then let him go free if he didnt want to stay.

I did a sloppy mod to the imprisoned dialog. I copied the hire for 700 dialog and made it "will work for food". So when I put someone in prison I can talk to them and give them the option to join.
So I now have a squad of hungry bandits working my mines.
Not perfect but does give me an option to do something with those in the cages.

You can do that now. They cost 700 cats and are sold at bars. You pay for them once and never have to pay them wages. You put them to work or order them to fight and die. They don't even get to keep their name unless you decide they can. If you want to "free" them you just dismiss them.Chinsei wrote:Will we be able to buy slaves an put them to work/free them for ourselves? o.o an if so how will that work i mean i wouldn't want to have direct control of the slave o.o but having him fill a worker slot would be nice.

That 'isnt' a slave. thats basically someone agreeing to travel with you, in exchange for money, they don't wear chains that aren't forced to do your bidding , unless you decide to view it that way. and you still have to control them directly. instead of them simply following an acting on their own.

I see the slavers in the towns, but there is no dialogue when i click on them.
Is there a way to sell captured prisoners to them?

Look up. Right above your head. See that? That's what we call a joke.Chinsei wrote:bk3000 wrote:You can do that now. They cost 700 cats and are sold at bars. if it doesn't inspire a laugh , its not a joke its a flop.
nothing in the comment was remotely 'funny' or seeming to have that intent. because we don't pay the other companions wages. and they do whatever we tell them without question. so it would more or less make them 'slaves' be the way you stated it.
so you didn't intend it as a joke your just looking for an excuse to start an arguement.

The question i have about the money used to hire people, is why? What is the money for? Is it the bar tab, a bounty, a fee? Where does it go?
I can understand if they are in prison, and need someone to post bail.
but really, the recruitment should be based on who you are, what your faction does, and what the person wants.
If i am the old soldier, then people who hate the holy empire should want to sign up with me. If i am building a town, then maybe reformed bandits should want to sign up with me.
Recruitment needs some work. why are these guys so damn loyal for the money? What am i paying for?
If anything, the barman should be the one we talk to for recruitment. It should be things like: we have a peasant who knocked up the wrong woman, a medic who is bored, a bunch of miners looking for a new mine, and a mercenary who has a huge bounty to pay off, but is under house arrest because no one wants to risk getting killed.
this adds some awesome flavor to the game, makes sense, and would explain why everyone loves you so much to get the piss beaten out of them all the damn time.

It takes a while. Seems like 24 hours or so after freeing to go from 'run-away slave' to 'ex-slave' and a couple of days after that to be free and clear. In my last game slavers congregated on my base like vultures so I tended to just leave the slave tagged in a locked building until they were safe.Xengeance wrote:Does the (SLAVE) tag ever get removed from a squad mate once they've been "freed"?
