Hello Everyone!

I am a new player! I've only been playing for a couple of days now, but I am hooked! Even though the game is in development it is a lot of fun. I also enjoy that there seems to be a pretty good community behind the project! Seeing the great community has made me want to participate a bit. I have been looking into modding a little bit, but have been running into some walls. That's another subject though. Onto the idea I was having earlier.

Citizens or Slaves!

So basically I like the labor and crafting system a lot. Having jobs and assigning tasks is great. Especially at the higher levels when you have one guy running your whole entire bread/weapons operation! However, I also don't like the idea that my whole city is controlled by me. It would be nice to have some sort of NPC interaction besides traders and bandits. Basically what I would like to see are NPC jobs. So, instead of opening a job at the ore mine for one of your squad members you open it to the public. This would allow for citizens to show up and work at your encampment. The flip side to citizens would be slaves. If you keep a bandit or enemy in a cage for long enough they become your slave! Citizens and Slaves could also require certain accommodation and maybe even require food and water.

I think that having NPC's living in your town would add to the feel of your city. You aren't just building an outpost, trading post, hideout for your squad at that point you are building a whole city for everyone in Kenshi. Also, Citizens/Slaves would be another object to become attached to. In other words you would feel bad about your town falling and all your citizens and their families dying (maybe even have your citizens age and have kids to take their place! the longer the family is around the more experience they pass to their kids!). It would also allow for you to focus on protecting your city in the later stages rather then making sure your supply runs are running right the whole time you are playing.

This would allow users to focus more on exploring and fighting in the land of Kenshi rather then building and crafting. It would allow you to have a whole city building weapons and selling goods while you are out pillaging.

I think it's key to note that in this situation you wouldn't be running around with 30 members on the map. This would leave your base open. This feature would just allow you to have your 15 laborers turn into security guards, basically. While your citizens stocked your stores and created your weapons. This allows you to take your focus away from your base and feel comfortable it is protected and still able to trade efficiently. You can keep the gate closed sure, but then you aren't receive traders to buy your stuff. Anyways, let me know what you think!

Citizen Upsides:
(+karma with good factions)
*Skills increase fast.
*Will defend city with poor weapons
*Maintain multiple jobs

Citizen Downsides:
*Requires more food and water
*Requires own house and bed

Slaves Upsides:
(+Karma with bandit factions)
*Less food
*Less Water
*Can maintain higher #
* Only needs bed

Possible Slave Downsides:
(Negative Karma? All factions of the opposite karma go negative. )
* Only one job
* Will help attacking faction (maybe try to open gates?)
* Attacks on your town to rescue the slaves.
* Slave revolts
* Slaves running away need constant resupply
* Less traders visit
* Skills increase slower

welcome to Kenshi

as for modding, you might want to read the modding forum. there is some basic helpful guides but it's nowhere near complete as the game is still developing.

Having people live in your city/base is already a feature, you can see the option in the options menu. it does require you to restart your game for it to take effect.
there are some issues with that option though. as during my gameplay i never seen any turn up and want to live in my city, so you might have same issue.

Players having slaves is well talked about, and for now the official word is, the player can become the slave to an NPC, but you can not enslave anyone for yourself. this might change in the future but don't really know.

Karma might be considered Diplomatic relations. so that might already be covered. though yours tends to add a bit more, maybe the Dev will work it another way to fit in with what's already coded into the game.
Do you believe the sexes should be equal?
Oh heavens no.
Then Men would become unmanageable
