I think every npc in Kenshi should have a randomly generated name. Every dust bandit, every ninja, every random encounter. A dust bandit band would be full of Althous, Ricks, and Jordans led by Francis.
Generic sand ninja joinin would be more like, "There's a ninja named Raiden with a 5k bounty."
I actually feel this is important. Too many games depersonalize enemies. You select an enemy and it calls him, "Raider Leader." He should have a name so it means more when I kill him.
Everyone should have a name
Agreed!
While I don't mind generic tiles for minions like dust bandit, and starving bandit, I agree that all bosses and townfolk should have names.
Clothing trader bob
Item trader Harriet
UC Samurai Shinji
dust bandit Boss redblade
This would add a lot to personalize relationships with NPCs. When redblade beats you down as a nubie you can go back and find him when you are a badass. It also would mean that Police Chief Jones and tell you about a specific bounty on a specific Dust bandit boss named Hooter.
It would also make towns more interesting if the citizens had names, perhaps one of them used to be an bandit before they went straight, and you over hear a conversation in the bar that if you talk to Johan Jones, he might let you onto a cache hidden somewhere in the wilderness.

I concur, names would be awesome. I'd suggest giving both the current "name" which is just what they are (Dust bandit, Hungry bandit, Samurai, etc.), plus a real name randomly generated. That way you can still tell how threatening someone is and such just by clicking on them.
Only problem I see is that the current name list is a little short. You already can see duplicate names fairly easily on just the recruits. If everyone had names it would be crazy. But that's an easily solvable problem.

This last suggestion is intriguing. I like it. It makes naming a more layered process. Currently, "Sand ninja", "Dust bandit boss" are the actual names of the characters. If you rescue one of them and have them join your faction you generally have to rename them.Shidan wrote:I concur, names would be awesome. For example, I had some characters I renamed, "Sweat shop worker" or "Mining slave" for all the sad characters doomed to endlessly produce goods. It would be very nice f there were another title underneath the name that we could edit. I'd be able to have "Abe - Desert Psycho".
