currently it does not increase. I'm not sure how to train it, other than running for a long time, but then everyone, npcs included could get too high too fast, its not an easy one to control
What if it got trained with endurance?Chris_The_Great wrote:currently it does not increase. I'm not sure how to train it, other than running for a long time, but then everyone, npcs included could get too high too fast, its not an easy one to control
The pack mules who carry our faction leader's loot and alternative weaponry would be strong and their feet can handle that immense pressure and weight, the moment that the leader or a squad mercenary tells them to send an urgent message to the faction headquarters, that trader's backpack is dropped and he flies just like that Greek who ran a marathon to Athena.
Or genetics could come and decide that... Or even the environment, you're in an area with dunes all around you and not a jungle or mountain in sight.
Running is your passion and what gets you going(I forgot the documentary and its producing company but there was one about a village in rural Mexico where everyone especially the elders run 420Km barefoot or using re-purposed sandals made out of tires)

i agree with barooney but since there will be robaic legs and stuff we could improve them with stuff like strengh and stuff which would improve running.

True, hard to train. Maybe you could have a counter to it. So it is gradually going down. That way every character doing 'normal' things would sit at about 20/30/40/whatever you think is appropriate. Through lots of effort, ie. running for very long periods of time, you could increase it. But eventually it would decrease again (slowly) without continued effort. This makes high levels only feasible for a particular build; a hit and run thief or a light goods messenger/trader/scout. Could also be used to give more consideration to the idea of light armour or plain clothing as opposed to getting the highest level armour for your characters.
Alternatively, you could have a specific place to train it that is time consuming and stops the character doing anything productive. Could be something like a kenshi equivalent of a treadmill/gym.

Well as I understand food, water and fatigue will be issues in future released. While just moving should net you athletics being well fed, hydrated and energetic could provide bonuses with the biggest bonus coming from actually running which would sap those stats thusly your bonus. This would make it somewhat difficult to maintain a strong athletics boost by counter balancing character need with player experience farming.
It would also slow down travel across the massive map hugely though as a downside as the system would make constant running a resource drain.

Isn't that an object or a goal for the game? Being forced to take shelter from the scorching sun or those dastardly jackals and nocturnal creatures in some town or nomadic settlement*Kamos wrote:It would also slow down travel across the massive map hugely though as a downside as the system would make constant running a resource drain.
***Off topic***Hmm.. Multiple nomadic groups scattered across the map living in tents woven from the hairs and fibers of camels would make for an excellent mod in my opinion, would also be a good reason to read up on pre Islamic -> Islamic renaissance poets and the lives of people in that era in general(Bedouin tribes, the amazing poem which baffled princes long before the world was confused by Through the Looking Glass and the jabberwokky all in good time <- ps: I fail at Kenshi, can't figure out the color code to make that invisible )

I'm sorry to bring up a dead topic, but I just had to point this out Chris. I was laughing so hard for five minutes straight when I read this! hahahaChris_The_Great wrote:but then everyone, npcs included could get too high too fast, its not an easy one to control
I was actually surprised that no one spotted that mistake! ...Or was it a mistake?
