Anyone got any ideas to boost forum activity?
Just like the title says, anyone wanna get more traffic here? I'm sure we'll got lots of new traffic with the beta, but still I'm sure there's stuff we can do.
Personally I've been thinking about making some kenshi videos, plugging the forum in the description, and I'm trying to get my friends into kenshi, but it's hard when it crashes half the time I show it to them, haha.
Anyway I just thought it'd try to get some discussion moving around this topic, see if anything good comes from it.

The thing is, Kenshi is kinda special.
One must like the concept of Kenshi, which essentially is struggling in an unforgiving world. You are not a hero. You are nothing, a nobody. This fact scares off a lot of people I guess. Also one must like the setting of the game. (Yes I know it's far from final, but right now it looks like the following)
Japanese elements? In a post-apocalyptic looking desert? That is not on earth?
In addition the community is split between this forum here and the Steam forums, where a lot of players reside. But honestly we should be glad that most of those people stay there.. I'm not sure why, but a lot of Steam people are just.. well.. I don't really know how to express it without being super rude.. socially incompetent maybe?
Moreover some people just don't want to participate in the whole forum stuff. They just want to play the game.
So what is left? A quite small community. There isn't that much we can do, but for example you can write a positive review on Steam or any other website or you could recommend the game to your friends. (Like you did!) It's also possible to create some mods to make the game look more appealing.
Sure I would like to get more people on here, but it sounds way easier than it actually is.

Trust me man, I spent like 3 years moderating an indie gaming forum, I know exactly what you're talking about. I also know there are more than enough people who would love kenshi, and who would love this forum out there.
I remember seeing kenshi over the past few years, and basically thinking to myself "This looks awesome, but all the reviews are calling it buggy and unfinished". One of the big things turning me off picking up the game and entering the community was the fact that it had been like 3 days since anyone had posted on the forum.
Something that might draw people into the forum is seeing some sort of community interraction right off the bat, such as making a monthly (then more frequent as we get more members) community creation compendium. Where someone (I'd totally do it) would read through/receive submissions of ingame player creations. There could also be a fan art section.
That would obviously take more activity than we currently have to be successful, but it's totally something I'd be willing to set up, ready to start on beta release or something.
EDIT: I wrote a bit more
This kills the forum. Quite literally the forum was ruined and underwent a complete reboot just so they could NOT invite a bunch of people. What I was talking about wasn't just getting traffic to the site, but showing people that kenshi is a great game, if it's what you're looking for. Also showing people that the forums have something to offer.

I know the feeling. My last forum was basically a bunch of people coming from an official game forum that had been filled with immaturity. After we made the migration, we got sick of the forum basically being a chatroom for 25 people and started mass advertising on anything related we could.Butta wrote:In addition the community is split between this forum here and the Steam forums, where a lot of players reside. getting people to stay is not that easy
yes the forum is likely silent but this isn't a big AAA game company with millions of loyal customers.
cant create something that's not really there.
Most activity is on the steam forums where their is easier access.

Do you believe the sexes should be equal?

Uncensoring the word pie would bring back millions of old users.

I just got bored of the forum. I mean, at one stage I had the most posts on here but now I check back monthly and sometimes I find myself having been the last person to comment in a sub-forum. That is just depressing.
So the quietness of the forum is self-perpetuating. We need some action to create more action.

Current inactivity is just the lull before the storm.
It's been 3 months since the last update and we have all been very vocal about bugs and features and tons of other stuff, but with the announcement about the beta release we have all been waiting to see what is in it. There is little to talk about because we don't know the details.
But you will notice that whenever any little bit of info is released the boards start buzzing again.
Want to see more action here? Pry some more teasers out of Lo-Fi.

its not like the old days where i would post 3 pages of bug reports all by myself is it, tons of people to pick up the slack and flood the bug report forums for me.
ps.
it just occurred to me that chris likely has banana related ptsd after seeing so many reports with my avatar on it.

Make topic where People can post to show off their squad/Village/shop and other achievements. I was searching for a topic like that, I am curieus to see what others have build so far.
Right now I am on holiday, so if there still isn't a topic like that when I Come back, ill start one myself.
Also, what about a forum Rpg? Each person can play 1 character in the Kenshi world.

We don't have an official one as we let the players decide if they want one or not.imdare wrote:Make topic where People can post to show off their squad/Village/shop and other achievements. I was searching for a topic like that, I am curieus to see what others have build so far.
