I've started a new game a couple times now, and there are just insane amounts of bandit groups that are way too big for me to handle. I can't travel anywhere to base or anything because there are just bandit groups that fuck me everywhere.

I know I can change the amount of NPCs but surely the default amount is balanced? Is there supposed to be this many? I'm talking like at least 5 groups of 10+ dust bandits roaming around the starting area.

you must be spawning somewhere near their lair which is dust king tower.

On the one hand, i'ts been like this for a while: everytime i import, which is kinda like a new game, first 2 hours are just dealing with incoming waves of bandits, cuz they respawn. After that, i can do something else.

On the other hand, it's a routine for somewhat experienced squad, but a problem for a new-starter. I'm not sure if players absolutely must to be introduced to the game this way.

On the third hand, Kenshi is supposed to look like a living world that doesn't care about you, with you being thrown right in the middle of it, at somewhat random location.

Bandits are fairly slow and I've had not too much in the way of problems during the early-game of just outrunning them. I've actually even taking to running for a while so the leader gets out ahead of his henchmen so I can turn around and get a couple good whacks in.

First thing I always train up as a matter of survival is Athletics so you can get your speed up to about 17 or 18. That will protect you from all bandits. Next, train your Strength so you can carry goods and still keep ahead of them.

Other than that I think the bandits are fairly balanced, and in some areas of the game you hardly see them. I've noticed some areas seem to have a disproportionate number of squads, but I suspect this has to do with pathing issues which will get ironed out as we go in the newer portion of the map.

I advise getting out of Dust Bandit territory for the earliest portion of the game. ;)

bandit camp spawns have large numbers
suggest run away.
Do you believe the sexes should be equal?

I've been trying to just outrun them, but they block all paths and since I'm tryign to start as the Freedom Seekers (5 blokes with lots of gear) I can't outrun anything if they see me.

Good idea to wear armour when you let them beat on you, too. At least head and torso, for sure. It increases your survivability though your Toughness won't increase as fast. I've not had a problem increasing my Toughness this way, however.

I don't really like to do the save and reload when I don't get what I want kind of play, so this works well for me.

Started another save and managed to make my way to Stack without too much hassle, seems to be a set route out of the starter area to avoid the bandits.

Yup, basically anywhere in the Holy Nation heartland tends to be fairly safe for the early game. That is, providing you didn't choose to be non-human. ;)

In the options menu you can turn down the the size of bandit squads and another slider to reduce the number of npc squads.

Yes....almost all the starting options leave you between a Holy mine and The Hub, close to Dust King Tower....and around The Hub is a Dust bandit infested zone with some Hungry bandits
