Shek lore, and couple native rectuirts tells the story about local society being unrespectfull to intellect-oriented minds. However, they do so among electrical interior lamps, under electrical ceiling fans (some are with lamps) and with electrical street lighting outdoors. Although i was quite amused by the variety weapon traders had, but shouldn't there be less technology around Sheks overall?

I mean, HN looks more savage with their torchpoles and blazing flames everywhere :)

True but the torches everywhere for HN makes sense, fire being symbolic for purity and cleansing a nation built on religion will have a weird affinity with that kinda stuff not to mention the whole deal with witch hunt vibe they give off over women and such.

However I generally agree that Shek towns could be "downgraded" a bit but at the same time wouldn't a martial society have these things so they can make better weapons / fighters?

I'm all for having them kick from HN heads in but doesnt mean they gotta be knuckle dragging savages, maybe more like 1600's samurai, embrace technology begrudingly to simply improve their own power and status.

Keep in mind, they're not actually anti-technology like the Holy Nation. They just do not place much importance on academic issues. If they acquired "fancy" lights from foreigners, I have no doubt they would use them. Especially since trade with foreigners is a big part of their current lore.

And the foreigners would definitely have those basic lights. As most of the factions out there use them. We just haven't been as used to seeing them since the main faction that has been present was so anti-technology.

I forgot that HN is, in fact, anti-tech.

Still it's doubtable that people who can barely read and disregard engineers would make a prolongued use of electrical technology.

Maybe i'm just fixing on a single, not very indicative dialogue of course...

Just because they look down on intellectuals doesn't mean there aren't any. Their leader's right hand for instance: "Although the talent of intellects is normally wasted in the traditional Shek Kingdom, Esata relies on Bayan for his advice, for the good of the nation."

And they also have an entire class of people relegated to menial tasks. Nobody said they manage their machinery well after all. ;)

There are plenty of existing anti-intellectual states in the world today that still make full use of modern technology.

Are you sure? Did you go to the same weapon trader?

I was like "Oh! look! A Plank! Oh! Another one!! A LONG CLEAVER!!!! wooooooooo......." so yes.......variety....

Well.......right now, Sheks are my favourite ones, I love their lore and I really want to see a Shek kingdom (not just 2 cities) but first......I need to see The Empire to say wich faction will reside in my heart :D

I remember prior to the second section of new map being released, the community was polled on what they'd like to see more of, and the second most popular option I believe was the Shek Kingdom. I had actually been expecting the map release to be to the south, so I had scouted along the southern edge of the map and seen some development down there, though I dare not touch let alone travel beyond that invisible barrier. ;)

Notice that's where the Shek cities are, so I expect that the Shek Kingdom is being flushed out and we may be getting just a taste of their fringe outposts.

Oh yes.....that barrier make impossible to enter in Squin from west, you must head to north and then enter by the eastern gate

I hope so!! Holy Nation recruits are great but they just want to get out of there asap (as soon as "pew", like a bullet), I can't blame them, or they are just crazy people trying to find somehting for the glory of Okram but I like more Shek recruits, they have good stories to tell.

P.S: Well I have to say that I like the HN revenge story recruit ;)

There's a difference between savages and warriors. I don't think of Shek as the prior.

Pretty much this. Just because the warriors don't respect intellect doesn't mean they turn their backs on all tech. They need some skilled manual labourers to make them decent weapons and armour after all, only the best for the Shek ;) They have a whole class of cut-horned 'retainers' that tend to be the more intellectual ones. Sure the retainers are treated with some arrogance and snobbery but they still have a use in society.

Oh, i see. For some reason i thought that they should just reject engineering alltogether and live unplugged. Perhaps i just mistakenly fixed onto "Intellect and technology have no place in Shek society" phrase. Alright, whatever the creator sais! I'm out of questions :)

Dont forget, according to Shek lore the advisor to their leader is an intellectual. regardless of what their society thinks, the order of the Shek leader is law. So if the advisor (the intellectual) recommends tech/electricity to better the Shek society, the leader can make it happen.

Guesstimated reasons for the tech:

Tech = Mass production of weapons for battle/mass production of food for armies.

Better lighting conditions = combat training can take place longer.
