When an npc is ko'd, there should be another option besides "kidnapping" were you carry that npc to either a friendly guard, or a faction bed. When selected, your character moves straight to the nearest friendly npc guard or faction bed with the ko'd npc, and you do not regain control unless they are attacked or have dropped off the npc.

I like the idea of being able to pick up allies and take them to safety without being labeled a Kidnapper. On of my guys has a 100,000 bounty for saving a tech hunter from cannibals. Kind of thing you would think would make them like you more not less.

But I LIKE training up my people in stealth just so they can effectively save people from being eaten by beakthings!

Not really. Agreed.

I generally agree with you, but someone will surely find a way to exploit the mechanics with rescuing. Taking away control from the player's character doesn't seems like a good option. [DELETED]

UPD: My bad: as long as player would have option to drop the load at any given time, the idea is brilliant.

Yeah that sound's reasonable. There could be an option. Rescuing could be a way to raise faction standing.

Possibly the option could be contingent on them having no standing squad mates? Thus no one else to rescue them.

And besides it shouldn't register as a crime without conscious witnesses. As long as you drop them on a bed(not in a cage), it shouldn't be considered kidnapping.

I could see one of those approach the player dialogs if a non-hostile faction member sees you carrying one of their own. Demanding that you turn them over. Give the player an option to explain this was a rescue. At which point they take over the rescue and thank you. If the person you rescued is now awake and if the player did attack them, then your deception would be revealed and you'd be pinned as a kidnapper.

The dialog could also have an option for "this is my prisoner" etc - which will certainly end in a fight.

What if they're attacked, or player decide to give up the idea of rescuing under pressure of heavy enemy's pursuit or something.
Where are you getting the idea that control would be taken away from the player's character? Are you assuming (maybe rightly, idk) that if rescuing someone isn't a crime then the NPCs will try to rescue the PCs?

Is it simply a limitation of the game that you cannot issue commands to PCs without it also being an option for NPCs? It seems that if this were not a limitation, it would solve a great deal of problems.

It was part of McNasty's suggestion :)

UPD: I've just noticed that AI tab has a "rescue allies" option. Judging by description, it should do exactly what McNasty suggests. I wonder if it works properly though.

That might work if the NPCs are allies. Supposing you wanted to rescue non-allies, that won't help. Plus rescuing someone seems like a good way to make friends out of them.
