There is absolutely nothing wrong with asking questions about the progress of the game. If you've invested into the game you should be eligible for some feedback. I for one am glad that someone asked about the foliage update; it puts my mind at ease knowing that everything is moving along smoothly and still progressing. :P

nothing wrong with asking. I don't keep the public informed as much as I should.
How long the game takes will depend on sales. If it wasn't for the sales income I would have a foliage system but no trees to put in it. Also I'd be at work right now, wearing a shirt. A shirt!

It will arrive when it arrives as long he keeps working full time I dont really care when better wellpolished than rushed and faulty... but trying to aim for perfection is a bad thing though as then one never realise anything, only end up deleting stuff. ^^

I expect this game to be done earliest in 12-24 months of time, so why rush it? That atleast what I think it gonna take for the game to be finnished, but if it takes over 25 months I might start to climb on walls :3 .
Anyway I've tossed my coins into this game wallet, as I would love to play it in the future.
Dont have to rush it, but ppl have put their money into this game and most ppl dont wanna have to wait 12-24 months for a finished game. Me personally have been tracking this game since like the beginning. And it is going very slow. I would have rather had more features added rather than making the game look pretty. As of now all you can do is run around and kill bandits and trade basically. Thats not much to keep some ppl motivated or coming back to the game. I used to check on things on the game everyday, now I cant say that i care much though until some new game play is added. Graphics are a good addition, but in a sandbox game like this you need things to do to keep you busy. Lvling up my characters got pretty boring after a couple of days and trading is pretty useless because there isnt anything you can really buy with your amassed wealth.

I still gonna put my cent on it gonna take 12-24 months of time before this game will be released.
I dont know how far he been working at the game before he gave it out on alpha, but I know that S.P.A.Z took 32-36 months If I recall correctly to finnish, which was made by a two man crew. And as you noticed things going slowy, he's one man, doing a huge job, So I think my guess on another 12-24 months time is actually fair guess, but that how I feel.
Also Dont expect to much of an alpha, you talk like you expect this to be an beta to an close completed game. Buying the game is our way of showing support and hopefully support enough for him to hire another hand and cut of a month or couple months of work.

No, just said that game play should be the focus if he is limited on resources. And SPAZ upon release was a pretty good game with plenty to do. I saw Kenshi around the same time I saw that Towns game, saw them both on Gamersgate. I ended up buying Towns seeing there were constant improvements in the game play and i still play it because its an awesome game. I know this game is harder to make, but a little, and constant improvement really matter. The new foliage system is good, but all that time could have been used to add some key features to the game making it more playable. Im part of a big gaming community, i at the very least have made 93 ppl try this game and most of them have stopped playing because there isnt much to do, so its not just me.

You make a good point. I have a couple more things to clear up with the games fundamental systems, then I'm going to do a big gameplay feature drive.

So you have been following this game since late December. Great stuff. In that time he has introduced a revamped medical system and has created/given the engine the ability to display foliage. This is some serious coding stuff. He even hired an artist guy to help him get it right.

I appreciate that you want to play this game; I personally really want to do even half of what is written in the description list but you have been following for less than 3 months, it is hardly feasible to expect a finished game so early. I'd say given the current pace to expect some sort of update every month or so. Check back then. The best part is, the game informs you when an update is ready so all you need to do is open it to the start screen/graphics settings window and let it auto-search. Try this once a week and just keep living your normal life. It will be ready one day. Or as some people say, it will be ready when it's ready.

EDIT: Also since it took me like 2 hours to get my thing posted it seems chris beat me. Definitely like what you are saying there. A gameplay push for the next couple of updates would be a nice thing to see.

Cool man, really looking forward to this game. Cant wait :) And Blxz, this game was announced way before December, might wanna do your research before you try to be sarcastic.

really?

the foliage was a HUGE update. especially for TWO people working on it. features are coming in the next updates, so wait and see whats coming. i dont know anything about towns, but im guessing its a team developing it, not a single person.

you are entitled to your opinion, and i wont argue against that, but putting that aside, who are you to tell him where his time would have been better spent? its his game, he can update what he wants. this is going to be a time in the game with a very dedicated following and also quite a few people that drop off along the way.

so here is my opinion--if its too slow for you; see ya. dont let the door hit you on the way out.

Woah now, no need for that hostility! He's merely stating an opinion, which is a valid and understandable opinion -- If development on the gameplay aspect lacks currently, then that is what is lacking to him. I personally have stopped playing myself due to relatively few things to do ingame, but that doesn't mean he still supports the game (or for that matter, I do!).

Yes, the Foilage system was an -immense- update, and Kenshi looks a lot more alive than before -- However, its still without much gameplay (yet!), so its only graphically awesome. Now if only I could figure out how to get animations into the game so I can make combat so much more fun to watch...

I can't find a single sarcastic comment in my post. If you mean the 3 month time period; I chose that because that is roughly when he joined the forum.

Otherwise I have no idea what the hell you are referring to.

He is a human offering constructive criticism. That is who he is to "tell him where his time was better spent". It isnt a forced demand, and i dont think chris thought it was based on his reply. Why you would type something so ludicrous is anyone's guess, but its not like i haven't seen it before from wannabe fanboys across the net. Maybe its just that you have no real constructive input to contribute and as a result you think you need to attempt to shoot down other people to make yourself seem more relevant? Maybe you feel some sort of ownership over the decisions due to having invested early on and as a result you feel the need to defend them as if they were your own, as them being incorrect would be "you" being incorrect in your investment as well. Maybe are going to take huge offense to this post and pout without actually figuring it out for yourself, who knows!

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, however many opinions are simply bad or wrong. To censor or prevent someone from having opinions would by tyranny, to criticize an opinion is healthy communication.

Ill step back a little bit and point out that paying customers especially this early in the game's development usually DO have opinions that most developers value, i dont know what chris's thoughts on input are, but generally indie games similar to this one value the type of post you replied to, so the point you were trying to make wasnt even relevant to him.
Dont let the door hit you on the way out.
I just want to point out that its very easy to have something like this thrown right back at you, especially after such a bad post.
Blxz wrote:It is hardly feasible to expect a finished game so early.
Nobody is expecting a finished game, it sounds like you are talking to yourself here. His point was not that we should have a finished game by now, but that perhaps resources being used for something like foliage could have gone to improve the currently very barebones gameplay. And yes, the game is very bare and it isnt going to hold anyone's attention for long in its current state, which is why if you dont understand the game's current state you cant expect to make progress? I really doubt anyone was implying that it would be like this forever or that the game being like this at this early in the development is a flaw in the plan.

Not at all. I know exactly what my own thoughts and feelings are on this game. Thanks for the reverse psychology attempt but I'd chalk that one up to a fail.

Otherwise the rest of your points make some sense; not that I agree with them, but I get where you are coming from.

I said that not meaning that you were literally talking to yourself, but talking to "nobody" as nobody was expecting a finished game so early.

I stopped listening to txfirefighter a very long time ago, he seems like a pretty ignorant kid. Gets offended at anyones opinion and starts raging when someone doesnt agree with his view on things. Hes a pretty pathetic person. :)

Yep, everyone is entitled to an opinion, good or bad, right or wrong. i even mentioned that. but to tell chris where his time would have been better spent and that he has gotten over 93 people to try this game and they all left, was a bit snobbish to me.

chris has to take it with a grain of salt. he is trying to run a business. if he were to react outwards with every comment (not saying he would otherwise) would be detrimental. this is the very reason i dont run a business. i speak my mind too much and usually get into trouble. which brings up a good point...

lets not go into the ignorant/pathetic path of name calling, ok? the difference between an ignorant kid/pathetic person and an adult is adults can realize where they were wrong and apologize. maybe i came across a reactive to you post and not objective. sorry about that.

just dont like when someone tells someone where there time could have been better spent. its his game and his rules. try offering criticism on the product in hand? what could be done better with foliage or something along those lines. same the 'what you think would be better' for the topic on the gameplay forum. thats all i was wanting to say. came across way different though. so, im offering a handshake.
