Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't a game need to be completed before it can be put onto Steam?

At the moment this game is barely in a playable state, I am sure Steam wouldn't take the risk of putting it up.

Aye Steam doesn't do incomplete games to my knowledge.

Steam is a bit picky with games (hard to belive as they have many average games on thier library), they dont have the biggest of library but they can outflat tell game makers, we dont think your game is what should be in our library.
Take for example S.P.A.Z Which today is on steam.
S.P.A.Z was refused to be placed on steam and they had to go the hard way and prove that thier game actually could sell quite good, it was on top list on two webpages for almost two months, it took about 3-4 months before it was given out on steam.

Also Steam as other said before, they dont want alpha or beta products so that out of the question.
But hopefully the game will be released once it finnished on steam, but I cant say I trust them on the matter, but it would be ideal as they hold such big chunk of the market.

Sorry for the english, but Im sleepy.

Steam seems to gimp Modable games. X3 AP is a good example. If this game is going to be as moddable as M&B and X3 series I hope it doesn't go there. This has been my experience anyway.

If I recall, steam really has allot of control over what the devs can do (In terms of marketing, selling and content). It would be good for media, but I do not know as to how deep they dip into profits.(Especially for indie-devs ). Again like what many have said, this would be only considered after Kenshi is finished.

Why the Hell you need Steam if we have Desura?

Theres been a myth going around about mods and steam, specifically that they dont work as well. I've had people tell me a mod wouldn't work on a game simply because i had it on steam. it worked fine and without a hitch. Ive seen the same pattern around game forums, people say it wont work because steam without trying it themselves then a few people try it and its fine. Hell, steam even gives free mods their own store page now and then and just recently released the skyrim workshop, its all built for mods, as is their source engine. Basically, its just the anti-steam crowd running around spreading falsities, if kenshi goes on steam it wont lose any of its moddability.

steam is great free advertising, and there are many who only buy steam games on PC. Desura doesnt hold a candle to steam, whether or not you see it as positive or negative. The amount of sales you get by just having a good game on steam dwarfs their fee and generally results in you rolling in money.

I can actiually vouch for Steam messing up X3AP. It prevented the import of .XSP files using the Mod manager, which destroyed my ability to install new ship designs.

I am by no means a steam hater, I am however a novice modder. And in X3 AP's case for me anyway it ruined my moding experience. On the bright side even if it did go Steam, you can buy a non steam copy lol and wont have to worry about it

The only thing I don't like about Steam and other similar programs, EA is a good example as well. You have to be on line and log into an account to play a game or get updates. As it stands I have so many accounts on so many different platforms. Steam,EA,Impulse etc. I forget all of my passowrds and user information half the time.

Sure great to have most games in same library, not as great if I get banned because I dont own the game if I do even If I bought it.
And Steam, Origin, w/e is just a fancy drm tool.

Pick your poison

RANT TIME!

I hate heaving to depend on a third party to install my game, and waiting six hours for it to load because they are afraid that I am a pirate,Arg! (An off-line installation from a proper medium would not take six hours).

It is time that game devs find a new way to protect their brand then use excessive DRM.
Arma II, if the software detected some type of tampering your character would turn into a seagull.
Serious Sam III,If the software detected tampering they send an invincible scorpion man with a gun for a hand to kill your character.

It is good to have all games in the same library...thats why I bought a shelf (for physical mediums) and a hard drive for GOG-style downloaded crap.

Sorry, I just hate DRM and steam ( I have steam installed, but because I have to  ).
But seriously I respect devs that create a clever way to punish pirates.

Hehe dunno that it honestly works for anything honestly. Not hard to fix those flaws. But otherwise I agree, it's a waste of resources and an inconvenience for legitimate customers.

getting banned and blocked from all your games on origin is as easy as making a post EA doesn't like on their forums. To get banned from steam itself you need to try extremely hard at it, you can get VAC banned which is game specific and prevents you from entering protected servers, and you only get VAC banned for hacking, so it protects the rest of us from the scumbags who hack. The hackers can stick to unprotected servers.

yeah i remember origin having a lot of issues. You can't use legal methods against EA when it comes to origin (it's written in that stuff most people don't read), they can also change your normal EA accounts into Origin accounts without telling you and lots of stuff like that.

They did need to change a lot of that afterwards because luckily some gamers apparently read everything and know how to protest to get stuff done

You should always proofread carefully to make sure you didn't any words out.

Need help? pm me or any other mod.

The problem with Steam is that they tend to take a rather large portion of the profits for themselves (I don't know how much Origin takes), although this is partly compensated by the fact that Steam exposes the game to a much larger market. Still, seeing as Steam rarely (if ever) puts alpha versions of a game for sale it seems unlikely Kenshi has any chance at all to be hosted there.

And even if they did, it might be better for Kris' wallet to first sell the game via channels that don't take such a large portion of the profits (Desura(?) and direct sales perhaps), and perhaps move to Steam later on.

The portion steam takes is more than accounted for by the massive exposure it will get as a result, it also comes with an overlay for people to use and a whole community system, maybe even an achievement system. They also provide the download servers for all the games bought off steam and the auto updating servers. The portion is peanuts compared to the benifit, after all this is a digital good where you can copy it unlimited times with no more cost to the dev, this thing where people are worried about the portion they take seems like a leftover from traditional sales thinking, it doesnt apply in this world.

But you can already buy the game reliably and download it reliably without cutting his profits. The overlay is pretty much useless.
