Cant get out the gate of my base

I have made a base with 3 gates. Two that are "normal" and my chars can come and go w/o problems. The third is on land but I have my wall going into the water, kind of like an E. So chars and NPCs would have to swim around my wall get on land and then go thru my 3rd gate. Is this a bug? or a feature that stops me from "cheating"?

Iv attached a pic. I have rebuild the gate with the same outcome, even moved it a bit away from the water but same result.

NVM, i noticed that the gate was about a foot of the ground... characters couldn't jump off...
