Just got this, a few questions
Hey, I just found this. And it was random too.
Good game, and good modding potential and stuff. But I got a few questions.
Question One:
Will you be adding a separate Hard Core Mode, in the future? That stays true to the creator's original vision for his game? I've read a bit of complaint posts from a few users about the game, and what is annoying and what isn't. But for some of us, we'd appreciate the details that go into "annoying" features.
Like, if I went out and ordered a unit to fight something and got maimed, and had lost the use of my legs. Or worse, one or both of my legs was cut off and I had to crawl aaaaall the way back to a city or medical center. THIS, is a "MOMENT IN TIME.". It's not annoying, it's a feature you won't find ANNYYYWHEERE ELSE.
Let me list you the number of games that would even attempt to have this, since the dawn of time.
Ummmmm.....
I think in Dwarf Fortress? You could lose the function of some limbs.
Ummmm....
In Deus Ex Machina, you could lose the use of both legs and crawl through the mission.
Ummmmm...
Sometimes, as a child, I'd play with my legos and i'd pretend some of them got hurt.
I can't... seem.. to.... remember... Seriously, I get people don't like frustrating things. But if you take a step back, and take a game for what is is. It's easier to enjoy, or dislike, without getting a headache.
But, whats great is this one has modding.
Question Two:
Do you have plans on adding wild beasts that hunt players, and possibly a hunger, stamina, and thirst function for each character? So you can hunt beasts for food, and cook them on a spit in the wilds. Maybe even add vehicles, maybe even add caravan vehicles (like carts that can store goods for your units, so when you stop them, and they are in certain range, they automatically get rations and water to recharge themselves, when they are out of range or if one is not present, they simply use any items in their inventory or just stand there until they are given something.
Maybe even add a loyalty meter so, if you let them starve long enough, they try to run away and go to the nearest bar to recharge. But if you're loyalty is high they stay with you till death!!!1!!111111 Loyalty points can gained through battles you win with your units present.
In fact, when people keep saying this game has so much potential, they mean they see a lot of things that could be done with it, all these ideas that could seemingly be inputted. But then again, I'm not a developer, or a programmer. I just see two and two, and put them together.
| -> -> -> -> [change] P [gain] x [change] | -> -> [done]
See, the man moved to the cart, change his animation, and got an item, and changed back!
Those are my coding skills! But really, is just a portrayal of concept, in how complex anything portrayed in this game even has to be.
Like when units starve, maybe some of them might go crazy and attack other units!
Well Anyway, I hope this game gets the funding it needs to grow. And I hope no really bad and generic corporation tries to buy it and turn it into monotonous mountain of crap that the "average consumer" will "ENJOY*COUGH* MASS EFFECT 3 *COUGH* EA GAMES*COUGH*"
Question 3:
I see the zone is mostly a post apocalyptic world where swordsmanship is everything. Which is a unique atmosphere. Not many do it this way. But since there are robotics, do you have plans to maybe add like, mechsuits? Or even, and don't hate me for saying this, AUTOMAIL!!!!?!?!1!!1!?2!?211??213
It would be cool, maybe you even gain a title for being crazy for trading in your healthy parts for modifications. Maybe even add a faction for crazy robotics junkies, where you can only join if you get rid of certain parts for robotic, and cant change back (Like your heart or torso, maybe even your skull, maybe even take your brain and put it in a robot body!) CRAZY POTENTIAL HERE MAN! IS WHAT I'M SEEING.
And the visual execution for all of this doesn't even need to be grand!
Hey! Anyone know whats needed to add your own models or animations to this game? I read someone's post, they said the problem was in finding the skeletons for rigging.
Also I would like to state,I hope the spirit of the game is maintained. Hard Core open world of fun.
I hope it doesn't become cheap and dull like most games do. People don't appreciate unique freedoms and quality now adays found in these things. You don't always need an objective in your game, making your own is just as fun and is what made older great games that much great.

Where are these "Complaint posts"?
This game is in Alpha, with one Dev. Some fail to realize this for some reason. If people are complaining about a game in its Alpha stages this makes me sad.
Those posts were mostly on indiedb.com right? don't remember...
Anyway, there's gonna be two (or more) modes, one hardcore for you and those who want (permadeath, save on exit only and forced) and one washed down where you can save while playing (and probably other nice stuff).
Now I don't recall your 2nd question
. But you said something like automail... Yes there's gonna be automail in this game but it will be hard to lose a limb. It will happen in rare cases. eg human transmutation
There's already a post about it somewhere on the forum with talk about some ideas like for example how you'd level up since your strengh won't change on the automail arm and so on...
Stamina is planned, the rest from your post i don't remember (i just skimmed through it quickly, too big for me, i just got up from bed
)
EDIT:

EDIT:
The "complains" were about the save system that chris had in mind. Some people like to save before a big battle and if it doesn't turn out well, they'll load and restart (just like in real life)Shenzo wrote:This game is in Alpha, with one Dev. You should always proofread carefully to make sure you didn't any words out.

Thanks for the replies guys!
Oh I see, well I hope more attention is payed to the Hardcore mode.
Maybe one day, if 2012 doesn't destroy us all, he could add lineage to the game, where you can raise family units that grow up and gain the stats of the parents or inherited traits.
Well, I'm curious to see how the development plays out. I'll check back later.

Maybe Chris changed his views on that... But I heard it from him personally some time ago (as personally as internet goes

If I recall there will be hunger and thirst. Also I believe that Chris said that there will not be vehicles but, big backpacks and fast-travel will compensate for that.MrHatmans said: Question Two:

I guess it would be something the modding community could tackle. Maybe changing the animation of some characters to a packmule you can buy. With a modified inventory. Or even, changing the player animation to a guy on a motorcycle, with increase movement speed. And some kind of toggle, who knows, I don't know the limitations this game faces.
I'm not a big fan of fast-travel, but thats cool too.
Know what WOULD rock?
Sand Ships.
Yeah, thats right.

I couldn't find an example of something I once saw in a movie. Oh well.
I sure hope the hunger thirst system works like Dwarf Fortress. I generally feed on my enemies and drink their blood that I am, naturally, covered in.
I should also be able to sleep off having my upper and lower torso being opened by a giant badger.

Well, there is the ability to make your character a cannibal. Hey, you already stole the person's sword and hat so why let the body go to waste.

I sincerely hope there will indeed be automail. I think it will thrive with the theme of Kenshi, plus it will really mean something when you lose a limb. It will cost you, and you may or may not like it.

Oh I like the idea of automail too, especially if limited recovery is a strong possibility. I would also like this as the moral alternative to the black market of human harvested limbs.
What if you could run the black market ? taking dust bandits and selling the limbsScotterius wrote:Oh I like the idea of automail too, especially if limited recovery is a strong possibility. I would also like this as the moral alternative to the black market of human harvested limbs.

I am really looking foward for that "robot junkie" faction. I can already imagine myself more modified than a nod cyborg commando and I expect to be more powerfull than them (suck it Kane). So yay for robot addiction XD.
