As for locations? As I said, seemingly fucking everywhere

From the top of my head, when you go north of stack there's a crash wall there, South east of the great desert towards the border to Heng, as well as an old village, the east (I think) gate of mourn, the mountain of Sinkuun (anytime I tried to go up I was met with a crash, so I stuck to the coast but if I dared try and raise myself any higher it went nope), and some random spots around the sten desert, border zone, burning forest, and flats lagoon

Well, no crashes on my end unfortunately, so it's likely something on your end then. My guess would still go back to the saving, since it's really the only recent new major change. Does disabling the user save location in the options menu help at all? What about making the autosave timer longer?

Other than that there is hardware. Only you would know if there were any changes to your equipment since you last played.

Changing the user save location seemed to not do anything, and hardware wise nothing has changed and it's baffling cause as I said it's never given me problems before

However I'll try the autosave thing
