Martial Arts skill. Sword vs hand?

I noticed that there is a martial arts proficiency, which would be a latter feature. How would the unit's block skill work against swords of arrows if they are only using their hands. My guess would be that the sword blocking animation would be changed to a dodge animation. (or maybe something like arrow catching from the movie Scorpion king).

Sneaking + martial arts = enemies' neck snapped. I would like to see an entire battle fought with only martial arts.

I would laugh if a heavy weapon specialist lost to a martial arts expert.

(imagining a black belt catching a plank in between his hands)
i think its possible but not in the terms i just imagined, he would probobly be faster than the thug using a plank and would toss him before he could swing the weapon.
catching a plank would be awesome and really funny

lol I had forgotten about that movie. I thought it was epic when i was a kid. The dude that shot lightning was a badass. Good old low budget 80's/90's era movies rock.
could be possible attacks with heavy weapons are slow compared to martial arts he can just out speed him with a solid neck chop.toaster Assassin wrote:I would laugh if a heavy weapon specialist lost to a martial arts expert.

How about the ability to break arms and legs using martial arts.

Or instead of it having to be catching blades and weird crap...what about grappling? Even just getting in really close and relying on knees and jabs and crap.
People with a big ass sword or something can only do damage if they have room to work.

Grappling someone with a big weapon is hard. So much ground to cover between swings and even harder to dodge inside their range if they have any sense. Mailed gauntlets would only help against smaller blade. Shields are your best friend against two handed weapons but we don't have those.
High-powered hunting rifles are your best bet against a sword guy in the desert. Failing that, shields would have to do. At least until bows/crossbows/semi portable turrets are introduced.
Actually, I wonder if that last option will exist? Would be really fun to cart a heavy deployable ballista or other turret around with your caravan/squad and set it up to provide covering fire. Would want it to be heavy and take some time to set up though...

hmm....backpack turret. That would have potential, but if ambushed it would be useless. However, if YOU are setting an ambush in the mountains, such a device would be deadly. How about fire ballistas and/or the use of Greek fire.

That's why I like the idea of a portable lightweight turret. Introduce some extra tactical considerations to a battle. And an ambush with a set-up turret would provide excellent artillery coverage. Would force the ambushee's (is that even a word?) to either charge you under turret fire or fall back hopefully into a waiting force behind them.toaster Assassin wrote:hmm....backpack turret. Plus, mobile turrets are almost a requirement if you want seigeing of any sort. Wouldn't have to be terribly mobile but I would want to be able to move it somehow. Even if it had to be assembled piecemeal at the site...although thats a little different from what I was going after with a mobile turret thingy anyway.
Also, greekfire sounds interesting. how would you deploy it though? Grenades of the greekfire pump thingy? I dunno if it has much of a place in game unless chris manages to implement some sort of wildfire mechanic where things can go horribly wrong with a minor fire mistake.
