Why all the helmets that I put to my characters make the attack and defense in negative like -5(9)

How I can do for the helmets dont make negative valours. I like so much the helmets. (All has been stolen from corpses)

Thanks

helmets as a whole reduce your field of vision
the negative values are how this is shown.
the more your face is covered and vision restricted, the more negatives to combat you will receive.

Shouldn't heavy armors also give a debuff to combat skills too then?
Negative three isn't even that much of a nerf to a players skill. However it would be cool to see heavily armored NPCs and PCs lose a portion of their skill from the loadout.

-3 from helmet, -1 from boots, -2 from pants and -6 from the chest piece. Basically assures you can't give your new characters a super heavy loadout and expect them to be practical.

Some of them do, such as the Holy Chest Plate. And all of them give a combat speed penalty making you slower while fighting.

With all the penalties, it already does a pretty good job of of dissuading newbies from using it imo. If you stick a newbie character in a suit of heavy armour, you can expect them to get totally destroyed by the first bandits they find.

as Shidan said. it's better to be a bit more seasoned in combat and skills before you wear heavy armour.
you still can use it but prepare to be beaten down often.

think of it like this
Your character buys a suit of heavy armour, they never wore it before and for them it's clumsy and it sits wrong and impedes their ability to fight because this the first time they have worn it.
It takes time to learn how to use everything so in time they will get better, the negatives wills till be thier but their skills will start to overcome them.

Ah yes, I noticed that. I was insinuating that all heavier armors give a debuff to attack/defense on top of a slower combat speed.

Does anyone know if combat speed debuffs stack or if you're just affected by the slowest peice?

And maybe I can inject a bonus question on top of that -- does anyone know whether lowering your combat skills with equipment this way positively affects gaining experience? Like, if your combat skills drop below that of a River Raptor and you fight it, will that give more experience than if you fought that same raptor without the adjustment to your skills and were instead evenly matched?

o dont have the numbers if that's true or not
but i tend to fight at negative numbers thinking tis adding more to experience but i don't have any proof to back that up.

They stack. So if you equip more you'll be even slower. It used to only use the slowest, but somewhere in beta it changed to allow stacking.

I do not believe so. At least it doesn't appear to work in the opposite way, with increasing skills slowing you down. I've never actually tested it though, I simply noticed those results while doing something else.
