It's very easy to make a base that humans can enter, but animals cannot. I tried to make a screenshot but it just showed a black screen when copy pasted.
Basically, you can put objects like stockpiles around your base, that are just big enough for humans, but not for animals, so if you make a base in the middle of the gutters, raiders cannot touch you because the gutters will eat them, and the gutters can't take a step inside your base.
My thoughts on a fix would be making it so you cannot place objects too close together, which prevents this.
