I think it would be a good Idea to know where certain territories are. Like The different Factions could have their color on the map, and maybe have buttons to toggle territory colors on/off. I like the idea of being able to see a section of the map have your colors and to watch it expand as you fight/buy/expand into empty or controlled areas.

Interesting, so far I've just been using the bodies of my enemies. But visual representation is always nice. What troubles me though, is that actual borders tend to be very iffy. Like some sort of grey-zone. Rarely is it so clear-cut as modern boundaries where they have a big sign saying "Welcome to X-state and Y-county".

I am undecided which would be better; definite boundaries or questionable boundaries where you might have a small risk of trespass.

Questionable borders add more fun.

No clear boundaries. Maybe if map just shows us who controls the cities?

That seems rather good santaissick (tip for his name: just write "santa is sick" together), but I have another idea: what if there were CONTESTED BORDERS? You can participate in contesting for them and the enemy MAY do the same, and you can SLOWLY gain territory, there may be more tensions in there and a conflict chance may be higher. What do you say?

Definitely non-definite boarders. Perhaps the town can have certain guard patrols that patrol around the town determined by a basic radius. The patrols could have a distinct look/insignia (maybe a banner) that would enable the player to know they are kinda in someone's territory. Faction control info would be very useful. However, the player would need to do something to get that info. (pay merchants,infiltrate,ect..)

I like the Toaster's interpretation of it, makes it seem more real than a magical map that tells what's what and when stuff changes. I'd still want to know when certain areas of the territories are being contested, perhaps merchants being upset that their favorite trade route now takes a dip into bandit controlled territory.

I certainly don't mind cities being labeled on your map as to who controlled them last you heard anyways. Same with forts and outposts I suppose.
But magical colored borders and what not? Eh... You really only control where you a present. You can paint the ground whatever color you want but when bandits are raiding a certain road that road isn't really your now is it?

Now there could be a mixing of elements here.
I'm sure you could plant a flag in the ground and say "THIS HILL IS MINE". Then you walk away and someone kicks it down. But what if that flag means something? Something of an authority rating.
For example:

The City State of Karkoro - Controlled by a republic council - Low military strength, Militia and Mercenary based - Low regular patrols - High economic presence
This city state wouldn't carry much authority beyond their walls. Unless someone need their supplies. Some nomadic band of cannibals would kick over their flag on a hill instantly. A particularly strong city based faction could do the same just for having a stronger military. A merchant might be less likely to set up shop nearby however for fear of being out competed.

The Holy Empire - Controlled by a Theocratic Electorate - High military strength - Professional military, Fanatical - High patrols - Poor economic presence
When they plant their flag on a hill people listen. People respect it. To cross them is dangerous business and every bandit or two bit cannibal knows it. Someone with a deal to make them might be more aggressive knowing they lack a powerful number of resources but that banners means something.

Well Lads and lasses its been a bloody long time since I've posted eh?
Recently I've been coming back to kenshi and enjoying its brilliantness once again and have noticed a few things I think would be nice to add mostly a few things regarding territory.

Now Kenshi you see is very similar to a lovely game mount and blade in a few respects as it involves building and army/ kingdom and setting off into the sunset to go on to adventures! On said adventures it was very clear as to who's territory you are knocking about in and aware of the risks involved. In kenshi wouldn't it be fair nice if we could receive notifications on screen telling us were the characters were in respects to territory, examples being:

Stinky Bill finds himself in Cannibal Territory.

Cruel Cass finds herself in the Holy Empires Lands.

Veronica wanders herself into Bandit Land.

Hairy Phil Walks into Land belonging to the United Cities

Fred walks into Dead Cat Territory

Having a sense of territory would also give a sense of more strategic battles such as building a small fort near to the damn Holy Empire to lay siege to it or alternatively building far from it to avoid contact when they do Border patrols.

This brings me to the sense of Borders in territory on the map as it would be nice to see what owned to who but also how cool would it be to have to meet certain requirements too reach certain areas
such as to be a member of the United cities in order to get into United cities territory by having a passport (or crafting a fake one with a 55% success rate) or by climbing over the territories border walls at night.
You could also be turned away from people territory for having certain items i.e. narcotics banned in the Holy empire and United Cities giving the opptunity to smuggle stuff in to sell banned items at high price risk as you could be reported.

Now lastly I did search for these ideas and I am hoping I didn't miss a post as it took me a whole 10 minutes to type this...

Anyway take care,

This sounds like a nifty mechanic that would probably benefit the new pathfinding/AI system currently in the works.
I'm thinking that perhaps it could be some value Z that propagates outwards from faction buildings along the ground mapping and is dependent on things like town population, defensive strength (some arbitrary value based on citizen stats/building conditions/etc.), or recent battles in which the town owners participated.
Not to mention that adding in "territory" to areas of the map, it would add more immersion as you RP through a checkpoint or some other event. I'm thinking of all the mission possibilities in such a scenario. Things like prison breaks getting through checkpoints, courier missions to supply farmers out in the boonies, or being the border patrollers.
