I'm a hundred and twelve percent sure this topic has been discussed over 9000 times in threads now deep buried somewhere around here. The thing is though, we need to discuss it once more, at least: the game would lack just so much without Online mode. Too much.

I mean, think about it: a huge world. Incredibru samurais. Fortresses, all kinds of realistic, alternative and positively cool systems (economies, armies, injures, electricity... . .) and no online? Co0ome on. How do you show off? How do you fight for supremacy? Who against? Bots? Lel! I mean no disrespect, this game and the guy who's coding it are both a-mazing. However... well let me confess you something, ok, maybe you'll get my point:

When I first saw the trailer, I assumed it was an online game. And actually spreaded the word about it within my friends.

tl;dr So, tell me: NO plans for online? Positively?

I won't respond about plans, as I'm not Chris, but I will say that an amazing single player game does not have to have multiplayer shoe-horned in. I mean just look at Dark Mesdiah of Might and Magic. Very fun single player (on pc, where it wasn't dumbed down), and abysmal multiplayer. They could have spent that time, effort, and money gearing up the single player even more.

That being said, just because a game is single player only doesn't mean it won't be multiplayer. Case in point Just Cause 2 http://www.jc-mp.com and The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion (don't have a link for this one). Even if Chris makes it singleplayer only, I bet someone will make it multiplayer.

Go down to clearing -up

Whilst this is an old post, meaning that this may change depending on what Chris has in mind, it's unlikely to be in the game anytime soon (probably a few years at least).

Chris has made it clear however that he is making the game how he wants to make it, and as he's already stated that it is single-player only, I doubt that an online multiplayer will happen.

That's too bad.

- A huge world... populated by bots

- The world doesn't turn around you... but around you and a bunch of computer simulated events

- Build your fortress... populate it with bots, and protect it against an AI pretending to give a s·it about you!

- Create an army to behold... by yourself and all the other bots.

- Dominate and subjuge botland.

- Other bots will send armies against you! They won't even know why!

- Brag about your powerful characters with your friends, imagine how amazing it would be to hold duels against theirs! You got that, right, imagine.

Don't interpret this as whining, I'm trying to make a point. This game looks incredible, but IMO the creator should acknowledge at some point that for many people that 'a huge world where you can do whatever' song ain't going to kick in if it's going to consist in bots, then bots in cities, and then simulated events, more things AI and a buncha bots more.

Besides, have you ever tried to imagine how friggin amazing this game would be with real people on it? Man that's what it's missing! A meaning! A meaning for fortresses, to get the frills when you're attacked, to feel about your mates, the sweating when you fight etc.

I can see what you're saying, but similarly from my own experience of most MMO games, I don't think it will enrich this game once it's finished and all the 'bot simulations' are in. You'll get:

- A huge world... populated by teenagers who constantly barrage chat with dick jokes.

- Build your fortress... til some asshat starts building on top of your fortress, and refuses to build elsewhere til you fight each other. Then a formalized clan comes and decimates all of you.

- Create an army to behold... until half of them lag out and disconnect.

- Other players will send armies against you, because you havn't signed up to their clans mailing list yet...

Also, you're talking about how multiplayer would benefit the game now - which I would agree is true - but the games not finished yet. Once it's near completion (again probably some time off) the things your talking about will be in the game. Sure you won't be able to share that experience with your friends, but you could still brag about it to them. They can tell you how their world is different to yours because of the actions they took that you didn't.

I'm not talking MMO. Yeah, hahahah I see how that could easily fail. And maybe that's what Chris has in mind too. No, I'm talking about LAN. About 32 people servers, even if the world is so big they don't ever get to meet each other.

Imagine: Upon picking a server, a procedurally generated world is created. Players are deployed at random spots. From that moment on, they'll start doing their stuff. Eventually, they'll either become so big, other players will hear about them in their home cities/settlements, or they'll get to meet during their travelling around. They'll be able to fight for supremacy, steal from one another's fortress, forge alliances, lay siege, assassinate or fight rivals in epic 1vs1 duels with both armies surrounding them.

Or even bigger: have volunteers hosting the actual game in their servers. The game. Create a huge map, and have each server processing proportional areas of the world. The map is huge, and there're a lot of bots. But also players, in such proportion that hey, you'll see actual people in taverns, real shop keepers...

Also, no world chat. Only position based chat, allowing to communicate with people nearby or allies.

I can't deny that that sounds like it could be alot of fun. It's just that I don't know how feasible that would be to implement into the game - especially as I mentioned earlier - multiplayer isn't even being considered at this point. By the time Chris looks at implementing multiplayer (if he ever will) the code may need to be uprooted to accommodate client and server versions of the game, there would need to be server-side gamerules that'd need to be created and tested to allow server hosts to keep an eye on unruly players or cheaters. It may not even be possible atm without a great rig to run the game (once the updated character art is in.)

But I mean who knows, Chris may decide (or be publicly bullied) into creating a multiplayer element. As I said, I just wouldn't get your hopes up...

He's already said on multiple occasions that multiplayer won't be implemented in Kenshi, that's his final word, it would take to much time to change the whole code.

Modding won't be possible too.

You'll have to wait for chris next game and hope it's similar to kenshi and multiplayer.

You should always proofread carefully to make sure you didn't any words out.

Damn. For a couple hours I actually thought this guy was a visionary, you know. Don't get me wrong, the game looks good, but when I watched the trailer I was like... this guy is changing the rules (as in the video game scene). He's gonna create the multiplayer experience we all have been looking for since forever. I mean, can you even fathom the potential? It could've been the new geek hit, a community driven, affordable game. Like DayZ. With single player only it's like... cool, you're making a neat SRPG. Thumbs up and respect for your work, honestly, but a bit of a pity.

Peace.

You know, I was about to say your description of multiplayer servers sounds s lot like DayZ, but then you said it yourself. Now that I know what sort of multiplayer you mean, yeah I think it sounds fun.

Also: 1337, what makes you think Modding won't be possible? I mean I just stated that people have made Oblivion multiplayer. And that game has no semblance of multiplayer on its own.

... Anyone else cringing at the title of this post? I mean, the 'n' isn't even close to the 'r' on the keyboard. :|

EDIT: to be a bit more contributing to this discussion:

I do think there would be a lot of potential for this game to be great with some multiplayer aspect, but if the developer doesn't want to have it included, then I'll respect that and enjoy the game for what it is. I do think, however, that any multiplayer aspects should focus primarily on private servers and keep the experience personal rather than let the game have multiplayer akin to an MMO or anything along those lines. I want to enjoy this game more with my friends than with strangers.

No one is saying online should be persitent. What I'm saying is, it would be a hundred times funnier to have the option of playing with at least a friend of yours. Not even getting into the fun of having a Star Wars Galaxies (the good part) style Kenshi. What means -- the world is enormous, it doesn't even matter how many people get into it for you're hardly ever going to meet anyone, so you're free to do whatever + since you hardly ever see a living soul, it's even funnier when you find someone.

Sigh.

Modding has it's limits. The multiplayer mod for oblivion was very buggy/glitchy/constantly out of sync if i remember it and not even a true multiplayer experience (you could chat with your friend maybe but can't even interact) and that's with a script editor (or how it's called). Kenshi only has the forgotten construction set which doesn't allow that much change.
You would need to access the core gamecode to add something like multiplayer or even a simple hotseat.

Also, since when is Chris gonna do another game?

Since long ago. He's even talked about it in his last interview, but the villain is keeping any info a secret. Kenshi is just the "entrée" apparently.

semblance
/ˈsembləns/NounThe outward appearance or apparent form of something, esp. when the reality is different.
Resemblance; similarity.

Synonyms: likeness - appearance - resemblance - guise - similarity

also: lol you're a terrible liar, I've seen your posts before.
