Hello lofigamers,

As we all know, there'll be some differents kinds of biome on the game. This led me to think about the following suggestion:

Why not including environnemental effects ? I mean, for exemple, in a cold biome, your characters will be slowed down, because of the snow, or the ice they are walking on, and their limbs would be freezings slowly. To counter the freezing, they shall wear warm clothes like animal pelts, etc... You'd need some gloves and shooes to keep your limbs warm and not to loose them because of the cold.
In warmer biomes, like the desert, they'd be slowed by the sand, and easily exausthed, they should put some light clothes, or even no shirt at all to counter the exhaustement from heat, the side effect obviously implying less protection, this way you'd have to choose if your characters are better exhausted and protected, or sharp, fresh, but less protected, etc..

We could then see environemental effects applied on character, depending on the biome you're in, having to choose between protection and effectiveness. It would clearly need new stat attached to armors/clothes like the warmness. You'd need also new stat of exhaustement on each chars (why not the "endurance" stat ?), and prefered kind of biome (some chars would be more effective in warm biomes, which would mean less slowed by sand than snow, etc...)

It will imply more equipement slots, for gauntlets, shoulders, etc..

But the possibility I see with such a system are great. Your nordic squad would be really different from your southern squad for instance, leading your chars to have even more customisation !

We also need cloaks and capes, with factions crest on it, different kind of it, with scrapy ones, silk ones, etc... :D

While i'm still there, why not also including seasons ? With such a cloth system, a season system would be great.

Everything keeping the current universe and style or clothes/armor of Kenshi :)

Part of that can be said is included already, i mena planned, as "weather" is a feature, effects withink will be, just don t know till wht point, if not i think is a good idea, even with the seasons, you can easilly make them larger, tho i think to make them affect too much would get problematic at a pont, especially if not taken care well (micromanaging).
Tho i guess a simple "mantle" bellow the armour on winter could sufice to heat up not sure :? .
It s Hbrown!! Gotta get some pies!

While we'll have additional biomes, I'm not sure frigid cold is on the list. Think temperate climate, forests, swamps, hills, plains... All of those seem like a reasonable fit, but given the proximity of desert the Tundra doesn't seem to be a fit given the size of the game world. Seasons have also been discussed, but it would certainly interfere with crop production, as it couldn't be a year round thing unless there were greenhouses and even then it gets a bit tricky.

Don't get me wrong, if Chris wanted to implement seasons, there would be a lot of benefits to a brief but harsh winter, where bandits would attempt to ransack your outposts for supplies and possibly for shelter. It really becomes a question of what other gameplay enhancements such features would bring. For a dynamic economy seasons would provide a great impetus to gather and preserve foods in the summer, and prices would climb dramatically during seasons when growing food wasn't a plentiful resource.

I do imagine we'll see different effects on our characters when we're in various biomes, if a swamp biome is implemented movement would be troublesome, in a forest biome scrub growth could make sticking to open paths important for faster travel, and ambushes by bandits could be an issue. Things of that nature will almost certainly make it in to the game, but given the size of the land mass we're on, for the new biomes think the difference between various parts of Texas rather than the difference between Nevada and the Arctic Circle. Clothing variations wouldn't play as dramatic a role, since the temperature is fairly similar and it is primarily the terrain that varies.

I think frigid cold is possible I mean the desert may just be the far south a
And b I fully agree with weather having a large effect

when i think of the Biomes i always thing of Fraser island.

As for the cold, desnt the dessert get just as cold at night as it gets hot during the day?

Will we be having any large mountains? i know not all mountains have snow at the top depending on there size, so in a more temperate world perhaps a misty mountain. It could certainly hide something and misty mountains can be extremely dangerous due to the amount of rain and few wakable paths.
The world is nothing but an illusion of the mind
