Is there one? or does anyone have any advice? I'm liking this game so far but i'm absolutely shit at it. I basically walk out, start building a farm, then get curbstomped by some random hungary bandits.
Most of the time I have to run through the desert to another city just to recruit a guy.
I'm kinda stuck as to what to do.

I recommend you build up one decent fighter before getting too heavy into other endeavors. By decent I mean defense and attack skill around 20. You learn real quick in real combat vs training dummies. Lure some Hungry Bandits NEAR a friendly town. Not too close or the town will come to your aid. You want the town as an escape hatch. Set your character to defense/block only and you will notice that their defense skill goes up by 20. Let some hungry bandits wail on you. You only need to worry about damage to your torso, head and stomach (for now). When any of these get down near 20 run to town and the guards will join in. Run to the side and bandage yourself then switch off block only and try to get a few hits on the bandits still fighting so that you aren't standing around idle. Wash-Rinse-Repeat. Do this till your defense hits 20 without the block only mode. With block only on your defense will be 40 and hungry bandits shouldn't hit you much if at all. Now you can survive long enough to work on your attack skill. Turn on defense only when it looks like you are going to lose. and run to a town for safety and first aid.

When you get a second person in your group you can do the exact same thing with them. Just leave your veteran swordsmen set to block only and enemies will ignore them for the easier kills. If they misapply their attention to the wrong dude in your group simply switch off block only on your new recruit until they hit the target. That usually makes the refocus their efforts on the character you want them too. Your first veteran will always be able to bail you out without the need for running back to town.

When following my advice exercise smart judgement. If the enemy has stats waaaay above your own, run away.
