invalid steam key/ confused

Soooo i've have Kenshi for quite some time now, been playing it on and off, i've seen that the game is getting a lot of new updates and content yet i havn't seen any of it. So i was wondering if entering my steam key to activate the product would help with that, but also when i attempted it, the key came up as invalid. So what must i do to explore some of these new updates and get my key to not be invalid?
