This game would be unbelievable if it was coop
Agreed; however I would prefer the best single player experience Chris can offer us at the cost of Coop.
Perhaps if this thing is extremely successful he can look into Multiplayer options in the next incarnation.

I think he said he will have to redesign the whole game to make it Co-op/multiplayer)
Thats kinda the same as making a completely new game. Which he might do when this 1 is finished and selling good... .
I would say atleast watch the youtube movie on the website :-p
Should be 1 on there with an interview...

Hello there, I'm new on the forum, and I discovered the game about 3 days ago on Steam.
I just wanted to say that I don't see why it would cost anything to the single player experience, since Chris has all the time he wants to release the game... This argument is severly invalid in almost any cases. Multiplayer does not cost anything to single player since it's 2 differents GAME MODES. If you wanna play solo, you still can. The only cases where it decreases the single player experience is in MMOs (which have a particular server system), which is not what we are talking about right now, OR if the game devs have a deadline to release the game, which isn't the case either.
You "just" have to add a server database and a server client system to play LAN, or direct IP connections, and that's all (Notice how I puted "" around just, I'm not telling it's a simple task). No dedicated server are even needed, 2 players, 2 factions (allied or ennemies) 2 cities, etc... hosted on the PC of a player with the server client. (Just as in baldur's gate 2, or any oldies like)
With only a limited amount of player (3 or 4 are already high) in multiplayer, the game can be really awesome. It would create a new economic system, or battle between players factions, etc...
The currents mechanics of the game are already good for multiplayer.
But I agree that Chris should focus on single player first. Single player can sustain us for a good long while :p

The game is built on top of Ogre, a rendering library. In point of fact, things like Unity simply did not exist when Chris began to develop this game. Ogre doesn't have any sort of networking support, everything besides the ability to render graphics, meaning AI etc have all had to be added into the program by Chris. This is why there are currently no sounds, for example, Chris will soon be purchasing the audio software he wants (as again, Ogre is just a graphics rendering library), and integrating it into the game. Kenshi would effectively have been designed from the ground up for multiplayer, and it was not.Kehlian wrote:Hello there, I'm new on the forum, and I discovered the game about 3 days ago on Steam.

I find that the biggest issue with multiplayer is the possibility of griefing.
What's to stop some random guy walking into your base while you're away, or they're neutral to your faction, and taking your resources, deconstructing your buildings, and, later on, killing your entire team?
Certain there are ways to stop this, but that would mean focusing on features in that way.
Certainly co-op could be brought up MUCH later, but until the game is actually completed, it shouldn't be thought about.

I don't think anyone suggested Kenshi be made into an MMO. Griefing issues in a game like Minecraft, which is a sort of demi-MMO are entirely the fault of the players not securing their servers either through whitelisting/blacklisting or through the use of rollback/griefing detection plugins.SirChuckles wrote:I find that the biggest issue with multiplayer is the possibility of griefing.

The vibe I am getting from Kenshi multiplayer advocates is that they would like something more akin to LAN/Direct Connect with 2-4 friends--not randomly hosted servers full of strangers. Personally, I think small-scale multiplayer would be amazing for Kenshi, but if the dev has literally built his own engine or something along those lines as I have gleaned from the forum, we are probably not going to see multiplayer until the next iteration of Kenshi multiple years in the future.
That and I'm pretty sure he's also stated "no multiplayer."

seriously, Chris has specifically addressed this idea, which I admit if it was easy I would support.

This interview is full of useful information to possess and worth listening to.
The specific refuting of the idea of co-op is right here:

A synopsis of the statement Chris makes is that he would say it is impossible to mod it for multiplayer.

Sand... As far as the eye can see sand, sand and more bloody sand. I hate sand it gets in everywhere and some places you just don't want sand to get in...
