Info on the beta here!

Hi guys!

So, with the quality of the mods out there already, and only a semi-working CS, i realised that the amount of mods was only going to grow.

The more mods there are, the more you'll want to add to your game, right?

So, in a moment of boredom, i (completely ripped off) took inspiration from the nexus mod manager to create a basic little program that shows you all the mods available, and all the mods you currently have installed, and allows you to select/deselect mods from the game.

Features:

*) Working Mod Manager, allowing you add/remove mods from your game easily
*) Save game manager, creating a "profile" for each save game
*) Profile exporter/importer, easily letting you share saved games!
*) Remembers which mods you used with each profile, so automagically adds the correct mods to your save!

EDIT: Theres now an installer for it. It points to C:\kenshi\data
Just point it to wherever your data folder is. :D
Gives you the option of it making a desktop shortcut for you.

To do:
Get an icon <-- done!
Make it look nicer <-- working on it..
Add move up/down list function - <-- done!
Possibly add in save game manager <-- done!
Import/Export profiles <-- done!
Link save profiles to mods used. <--- done!

You can have each different game in a "profile", which is selected through the "save manager" tab..
Now the main part is finished, each profile is linked to the mods used, so you don't have to remember anything!

Version 1.4.3-5 is out. Should be compatible with steam again. For some reason, chris released the standalone version mixed with the steam version, and KMM was originally programmed to check for the standalone version first. So, when it found the standalone exe, it assumed it was the standalone version. Woops. Should be fixed to still check that first, but check that the steam version doesn't exist. If people are having problems with launching the game, please let me know!

All/Any feedback is appreciated :D

Hey guys, minor update.

Now handles files better, and you can rename profiles. And a flashy (pretty badly made) splash screen when it's doing something.

Any idea what happened to my save? After I created a new profile it seems to have disappeared. Now I have current, (my created profile) and quicksave0/1/2, but none of these have the "load game" button when I start up one of them.

Look under kenshi/data/kmm/saves/*profile name* and saves should be there. Also on the save manager does it say loaded profile = *your profile name*?

The save manager certainly is useful.

Maybe one day you won't have to rip off the Nexus Mod Manager - maybe one day we will have a Kenshi Nexus... I'll definitely talk to Dark0ne about it, as this game is really awesome, and the modding capabilities are great! So, if I can get him to test it out, he may be willing to open a Nexus for it once the game is "done".

If that fails, I'll simply ask him if I can write an article about Kenshi and post it in the announcements section. Maybe it will draw some more people to Kenshi and even some paying ones too. :D
And maybe a short interview with Chris as well, if he is interested... You know what, I'll get right onto that (I'm a staff at Nexus by the way^^)!

Another update!

This update will link each "profile" to the mods you used for it.

Example -

"Profile 1" has 2 mods, "Mod A" and "Mod B"
"Profile 2" has 1 mods, "Mod C"

When you load "Profile 1", "Mod A" and "Mod B" will both be automatically loaded for you, so you can just click play.
Similarly, when "Profile 2" is loaded, "Mod C" will be automatically loaded in place of the other two mods.

Hopefully that makes sense :P

Hellhound :)

To all who have already downloaded - you can update by just installing over your current setup, or remove the old version from the control panel and install the new one. Either way, your profiles and setups won't be touched!

Hi!

I have a bug to report. First off, my game directory is not standard (it is not C:\Kenshi\).

Second, I cannot save anymore. I have new profiles, old profiles, new savegames, and old savegames to play with, but every time I load up the game, the only option it will give me is to start a new game.

Am I missing something here? Switching profiles doesn't work. Copying old savegames to the original save folder doesnt work either. And I have no idea how to uninstall the mod manager to revert to a vanilla Kenshi.

Please help if you can. Thanks!

If you are using Desura you have to install the plugin (usually) in C:\Program Files (or "(x86)")\Desura\Common\Kenshi or you may be using diferent profiles to enter Kenshi.

Thanks but I'm not using Desura, just the installer on another drive (D: drive in my case). And it is currently installed in the Kenshi\Data folder with a KMM folder in that Data folder. Could you point me to a configuration file that the program may have altered to enable its save game swapping ability? Is there a setting that declares where the save game location is defined?

Edit: Just to check, i reinstalled a clean install of Kenshi and saving works again. So, I'm afraid it isnt a Kenshi bug :)

Hey,
Shouldn't matter what drive or where you've installed the game, as long as this is installed in the data folder the program handles all the stuff for you.
Also the program does all the copying and stuff, theres no (yet) way of kenshi itself doing the copying.
Currently the manager puts all the profiles in the kmm folder, and copies the profile you load to the kenshi save folder.

Do you still have any save files in the kmm folder? If you can zip up one of your profiles (or use the exporter) i'll take a look at why the game wasnt recognizing the saves.
Also, can you remember what the last thing you did with the save manager was before it stopped letting you load games? Which button did you click etc..
And did you get any errors or exceptions?

Thanks
HH :)

Thanks for looking.

I think i figured out why this is happening. As soon as I load up a profile, the save profile structure and the 'save' folder itself have only two folders - platoon and zone. This is a level too low in the folder structure. An unaltered save folder should have 'bak', 'current' and 'quicksave'. If I restore this structure to the save folder everything works again.

As for other errors, i can randomly crash the program trying to run Kenshi from within the KMM, as well as some other actions. I'll write and post them the next time they appear. I'll also post again when I can upload my profiles.

That's extremely weird. I can't 100% get my head around whats going on there. Did you have it installed in the main kenshi folder?

Ooh, thats another weird one that really shouldnt happen.

Are you running as admin?

Yep, I'm running as admin in Win7 64bit. Most recent versions of Java, .Net, etc. running.

When I install the KMM, it defaults to C:\Kenshi\data. My game is in D:\Games\Kenshi. When I select this folder it is automatically adjusted to D:\Games\Kenshi\data. Since mods work fine I think the install is correct.

Here is another example. When a new profile is created, the KMM save folder for that profile and the save folder in Kenshi are empty. Kenshi at this point will not generate a new save structure, or save at all. It seems to depend on some of this save structure/files already being there. The structure, at least as I can see, is not being generated correctly automatically.
