I'm no code junkie, but according to chris, he would have to re-write large swathes of it to make this feasible. At the very least this will not be in the first release. If kenshi goes on to sell minecraft levels of copies he might very well start working on some megepatches/expansions/new game that actually allows multiplayer. But his plate is pretty full right now with what he has promised so far. I'd like to see him actually nail the game properly before we go into other, extraneous things.

Besides creating all that code code, there would be a LOT of data that would need to be syncd between the computers. (too many random events at once)Meaning some things on one computer will not happen on the other the same way.

Sure it would be a lot to process, but this game isent going to be small forever. If 3 people can make an online mod for skyrim, a developer and a team can make one for this.
The entire framework of the game would probably have to be rewritten; things would have to be changed in the overall dynamic sim environment. It'd just be a lot of work that could be more focused on improving the current game.

Also, the Skyrim multiplayer mod hasn't even gone anywhere just yet... The most they have is people being sync'd to the world but only appear as floating, naked male nords; that's it. (and there are multiple mods for a multiplayer skyrim, each one at pretty much that same issue) In fact, most of the teams that were working on the multiple mods for multiplayer Skyrim ceased their work due to difficulties with the projects at hand, and personal differences. There hasn't been an actual update on any progress for any multiplayer mod for almost a year. (Unless I've somehow missed something)

A better example would've been the Just Cause 2 multiplayer mod, which has been tremendously successful, but that's a completely different game entirely than Kenshi and Skyrim... With different elements and different emphasis of its direction, without simulation and in an entirely different engine.

PS: Not every single game in the world NEEDs multiplayer. Geesh.

I agree with you.
People dont think about it... its easy to say a game needs a multiplayer part.

Well I think it's easier to say that no the game doesn't need it/it's impossible, then to say it does need it, then try to reach that point as the boys with their multiplayer mods did. Sure, some fail and give up. Then you have the ones that are really great. Hell, some games just seem to demand multiplayer, yet it was never put in. It happens a bit for rpg games and me, I'd walk into this great amazing town, think "Wow, this place looks made to be filled with other players" and just get sad, later after get bored, then drop the game shortly after. Though I suppose I'm just one who likes playing his favorite games with his friends. I gota admit when I bought this I thought how cool it would be to play this with my friends, take over the wasteland, or just adventure in a small party, though I suppose I'll have to settle for this, along with moans and groans of course.

Anywho, that's it for my dumb rant. I felt like I needed to say something, as I keep seeing all of "That" seemingly everywere, and just get angry under my breath when some people just denounces the notion like that.

I love multi-player/coop gaming, especially LAN gaming. The problem is that a multi-player mode would just be too much for one single developer. (I.e. the code-work, balancing, bugs and stability issues, time management,ect..) Chris planned Kenshi to be a single player. In my opinion, Kenshi would make a kick@$$ multi-player experience but that is a rather big commitment. If it is possible to create a multi-player mod then I say go for it.

Kenshi as a multiplayer? I think not, I like one single game with no one to atack me randomly to troll me or to trade with me and disagree with the way I trade ALL the time. So yeah, I prefer no multiplayer.

It might be hard to make online multiplayer since Kenshi has world changing all the time. If someone raids a town, no one could shop there ever again.
Because in Kenshi,(or so I have understood), people doesn't just spawn back from nowhere after being killed. If you die you die.

Some sort of spawning system would be required and I think it would ruin part of the games idea. Of course, if it's done well, Some sort of LAN games with friends could be awesome. But only if it is planned well and made well. Possibly Co-op with everyone playing with 1 squad member maybe?

But as said, only basic multiplayer would be ton of work , I think, and with only one dev... :?

You make it sound like we're asking for a multiplayer MMO mode only (which even I think is way too much). I'd like to think it'd be kina like The Guild II, I loved that game, and the multiplayer is the reason why I bought the Guild II Collection and a Copy for my friend so we could play together. Had such a great time. Though it's true that even friends could disagree or even troll you, the single player is always a option.

Though really, I think I'd settle for single player for now. I want a great single player experience established first with this.

Sometimes, you just don't want a multiplayer option in great games and you'd do anything to make sure there woldn't. Anything.

If multiplayer ever happened it'd have to be in it's own, tiny game world. Multiplayer just idn't possible in Kenshi's vast random world

Thats bit about random worlds isnt true. There's a little thing called procedural generation that allows multiplayer games to be on scales you wouldnt believe. Consider a realistically sized galaxy with the right number of stars (and an estimate of realistically sized planets) with details down to trees, all synced across multiplayer without an issue.

Though really the challenges depend on the type of multiplayer. Would be it be some sort of coop? Verses? Server based? An MMO?

Your cough sounds pretty bad. :( Maybe you should visit a doctor.

Anything.

Actually, I am happy with a no-multi policy. Probably because I have no friends. =)

I suppose there could always be a cut-down multiplayer spin-off version of Kenshi, like how the Fallout series had Fallout Tactics.

You know, After Kenshi's finished and is super popular/successful.
