Hi, I truly understand if this may be completely irrelevant due to your time, budget or the technology your using to develop the game. But, if there is a demand, will there be ports for GNU/Linux and OS X?

Also, I really want to wish good luck, if you port it I will defenitly buy it and maybe even donate a small sum if it's as good as it seems. I also want to say that I love the overall style, it's really cool and feels original.

Thanks.

I thiiiiiink that since this is OpenGL based, that wouldn't be too hard. But I also know very little about the other platforms, except that they can run OpenGL :?

OpenGL is other (but not so much) to other platforms, OGRE (engine that Kenshi uses) is compatible with GNU/Linux and Mac OS X (look into my signature I got GNU/Linux)

Until that use wine (I dont know if it work)

Steam will have linux post so if Kenshi will have Mac OS X port and Linux port be sure it will be on steam.

Nop, the only natively supported os will be windows. Ogre and opengl may be crossplatform, but the other plugins and programs chris is using for the game are not. He's using microsofts direct x too i believe. Your best bet would be wine and the like. There was a guy working on a mac os port, but he disappeared after 1 2 posts...

You should always proofread carefully to make sure you didn't any words out.

Yeh, thats right game uses Direct3D, but if there will be BIG community Im sure that someone will do "Unofficial" port for other operating system

And GNU/Linux is starting to be more popular than before with introduction of Smartphones (Android has GNU/Linux core) and Chromeboxes/Chromebooks (Chrome OS is GNU/Linux too)
It looks like second OS war just begins this time: Windows vs GNU/Linux

Many businesses use Linux for their servers because it is more stable. However, You know that the casual user would probably would stay with windows OS because they are too used to it (and don't like change) or they are worried about software compatibility. There are many different types of Linux OS

Windows 8 is going to drive so many people to other platforms like Linux, it's going to be similar to what the iPod did for Apple many years ago. I myself who have never truly embraced Linux in any form, am going to build a separate rig just for it, install Steam on it, and contemplate the benefits of migration.

At this point, *not* building cross-platform games with Windows 8 just around the corner, is the mistake. Windows 8 is setting up for a Vista-quality-fail, and the software industry has to be ready for a bit of a paradigm shift along with that.

Not everyone who hates win8 will go to linux. They'll just stay with win7. just like a lot stayed with xp when vista came out 8-) .

I think most gamers play with windows and will in the future. Crossplatform is nice and all, but it sometimes just isn't worth the effort (linux has what? 1 or 2% of the desktop share?).

I use BSD as server OS :P

And my laptop has a nice working backtrack os (linux) 8-)

Same here, I usually mess around with Unbuntu and Debian (Kind of sad that a person cannot watch a movie on Linux without adding a certain "add-on".

I keep an Ubuntu partition on a portable HDD. The rest of the portable is NFTS so I can still use the rest of the space.

I did a bit more messing around and 0.32.0 works in wine :)

Only change i needed to make was to settings.cgf, where i had to change
skip stencil tricks=1
to
skip stencil tricks=0
and the terrain now draws properly.

Infact, the actual meshes for buildings show up. This doesnt happen on my windows install, so it's safe to say my linux install outperforms my windows install :D

If anyone wants, i can draft up an installation guide for kenshi on wine, and for directx (which needs to be installed seperately)?

Hellhound1,
I just bought the game today and am running 0.29.6 in Ubuntu 12.10 using Wine. Did you manage to get the updater to work?

Sort of interested since I don't have Windows installed ;)

No, sorry :(
Chris is due to release a 0.39 beta version soon, and i'm hoping it'll be a seperate file, and we can use that :)
Did using the Kenshi installer on wine work ok? I copied my windows install over.

I was afraid of that ;-)
Well let's hope for a downloadable 0.39 Installer then...

I used the installer in Wine with no troubles, though various dependencies may already have been installed.
Is there supposed to be sound though, my game is as quiet as an abandoned desert town in the middle of the night? When the computer fan get's loud I almost expect a tumble weed to come swishing across the screen :-)
I've played for several hours today and have only had one crash, so I'm fairly happy so far.
