Save game corrupt

After the recent update, it seems that everytime I turn off my computer and come back to the game; whenever I try to load my game it'll say ''Game load error, your characters have been salvaged.'' Though my characters only get saved about 1 out of every 5 errors. Its gotten to the point where i have to copy my save folder and paste it on my desktop; only to repaste it back in the directory after getting the errors. This seems to at least save my characters. Sometimes I forget, like last night.. bumping my main character back 7 stat points in both attack and defense. Which is hard to get, with a squad of 5! (Which i enjoy the challenge of playing) Never encountered this problem before the mini update from .4 to .5 i believe. Help? Im trying to get the game to be stable for me before I deploy this sunday to afghanistan for 7 months. AKA no internet, no updates. =(

Nope. If I load the game it doesnt give an error, but my characters are gone. If I try to start a new game with imports, then it gives the ''load game failed, your characters have been salvaged. awarded 10000 kats as compensation'' But the characters dont actually appear with that method either. The only way is if I manually paste my backup files into the kenshi save folder. If the game happens to crash, or if i choose to exit the game and start a new game with import it works fine; but only when i turn off my computer do the saves dissapear.

You could just re-download the installer (If you do not have it), assuming you didint have any big problems with 0.25.4. The installers located everywhere (Including main page http://www.lofigames.com/) should all be at 0.25.4.

That is weird. Because no one else seems to have this, I would suggest you redownload the latest version and completely delete the existing kenshi folder (backup you saves though), then re-install. That might help, but what I don't understand is that it only happens when your computer restarts. So let me get the facts:
1- If you save, exit, then start up again and load, everything is fine
2- you restart your PC, and your save files are still there, but then your characters are gone when you load?
3- if you backup your save folder to desktop, then restart your pc, the saves are corrupt but the backup works fine?

Lets see here...
1 - Correct, even if kenshi crashes it will still load up fine.
2 - Correct, I tried opening the saves located within the kenshi folder after a restart using the editor; my characters were gone from the ''nameless' platoon. But still remained in the backup save.
3 - Correct.
NOTE: I took silent's advice and downgraded from the latest mini update.. Just checked and it seems to have fixed the problem.
This same issue just happened to me. I always leave my computer on pretty much all the time but was turned off today. I went to play Kenshi a few hours later and when I loaded my game none of my characters showed up and my faction name is back to the default - "nameless". Importing with squad and buildings did nothing to help, no error messages show up and everything is normal, just no characters! I kinda don't wanna lose my progress with them.. hmm, but looks like I might have to. Im not sure how the save's work in the folder, but the ''current'' and "quicksave" folders are all empty in the folder and sub-folders - (platoon & zone). Except there looks like there is one save file in the "quicksave" folder.
So will I have to start over again? Am I just gonna have to downgrade or would it be best to delete everything and re-install? maybe keep the save files anyway?

is it the latest version?
If your quicksave folder is empty, then there is nothing we can do except try to figure out how it happens. Does it happen again, if you start a new game, save, then restart your computer?
Its hard to figure this out, because the bug must be happening when you save, it fails somehow, but i don't see how restarting the computer would affect it.

Yes, it is the latest version.
Hmm. I started a new game, quit & restarted my computer as you said but my character loaded fine... i'd agree with you that restarting the computer has nothing to do with it. Sorry for the lack of information. I'd say the best thing to do is wait until it happens again and post up exact details of the game and such when the bug happened. Something MUST cause it.
Anyway thanks for getting back to me Chris. I'll make another post here if it happens again.
Which hopefully it will!
