Changing Equipment Should not be Instant
This one's another pretty simple one. Changing your equipment should not be instant. Currently, players have the ability to carry all their equipment in huge backpacks, and then, right as combat starts, pause the game, equip everything in their backpack, and move the backpack into their inventory to avoid penalties. I don't remember trying it, but I think it's also possible to do this during combat
I propose that an animation for changing equipment, which takes an amount of time (either constant for equipment types, or dynamic based on skills and equipment types and/or wounds) be added in to counter this.
I mean, it's just unrealistic to be able to equip full armor so quickly.

I never thought of that, it's like dividing by zero- WAIT DO-...

But to keep the game playable, we would then need different means of transporting mass quantities of goods.Tolwrath wrote:I mean, it's just unrealistic to be able to equip full armor so quickly.
The reason for that instant-change dealy is that every fluff of lint has to be carried in someone's inventory.
As a result there needed to be a way to let your characters carry serious amounts of trade goods. That led to weight-reducing backpacks to be able to store their heavy weapons/armour as well as trade goods and still be able to move at all.
You can't just "fix" the unrealistic switching behaviour without first fixing the reason for it.
One option would be a second, trade-good-only backpack.
Limited in size but 100% weight reduction.
Just as bad a hack but it would probably be a gameplay improvement because it would allow characters to run around in their normal gear, trade goods being completely separate. No more inventory Tetris, shuffling fighting equipment back and forth - while the trade goods would also be organised more cleanly and so easier to access.
The overall speed while using such a special backpack could have a minimum cap so your toons would slow down somewhat (making mugging a viable career) but would always be able to move... at all.
Would probably need some hotkey to drop the "trader" backpack of your currently slowest selected character. You may sometimes want to run rather than get slaughtered.
Slowing down the pursuers (by having them pick up the goods) sounds like a viable tactic. =)
PS: Dividing by zero isn't all that scary if you are willing to leave the comfort zone of real numbers.
About 90° to the left and right of this reality the math isn't so ahh... stubborn.
Dogs and colour blindness explained: People with green eyes can't see dogs.
You're insane. A 100% weight reduction back pack?! That's both game breaking and realism breaking. Frankly I think we should consider ourselves lucky to have backpacks that give 25% reduction (current backpacks are 50%). Hell, I'd even be satisfied with backpacks that give NO weight reduction. I mean characters get greater strength from having high carry weights, which in turn allows them to carry more trade goods. If you don't carry heavy loads of trade goods, how will your troops ever increase their strength? Trade goods are supposed to have weight. There's a reason why traders themselves don't wear heavy armor, and pay people who are armed to the teeth in armor and weapons to follow and protect them. Not to mention, I'm pretty sure that we'll eventually be getting pack animals to allow us to carry more trade goods, too.Gazz wrote: One option would be a second, trade-good-only backpack.

You know, I thought about some kind of inventory limitations during combat, but decided not to include it in my wishlist. It might add realism, but I would just find it more annoying than fun. I never bothered micromanaging trading bags on/off, because that was too boring. Of course, in my last playthrough I just modded in some 100% weight reduction bags, with a stacking limit of 100, and no combat penalties [I wanted to start a new game with 10 recruits and enough construction mats for an outputs + extra buildings].

Has anyone played any 'Monster Hunter' game?
anyway, in MH, sharpening weapons could not be done whilst fighting a monster
so how can weapons and/or clothes be instantly changed mid-fight?

I haven't played any Monster Hunter game, but I have played God Eater: Burst, and they're sorta similar to my understanding. When I wrote this request my original idea was to have it be one of the toggle-able rules that can be chosen with the Choosing Game Mechanics feature. This way players could have either that little bit of extra realism and difficulty, or have greater control (and one less reason to need to cheat). As a minor issue, it's perfect for an optional rule because on or off, it won't be able to cause a major impact to the game's balance, nor would it have much possibility of conflicting with other code.
PS: I refuse to call it "Gods Eater: Burst". That's just stupid self censorship. No one was going to assume the game was about the Judeo/Christian God. And it sounds stupid too. Even when you try to say it, in your head you can only think of it as possessive because the plural is just too stupid.

Which amusingly, is how you pronounce necromancy with a Japanese accent.
I should probably not derail my own thread with my first post on it in just 11 days shy of 2 years.
So in that other thread someone mentioned that we probably shouldn't even be able to place backpacks in our inventory if there's anything in the backpack. I kind of agree with this, but I'm also worried about items dropped on the ground potentially being lost in a sandy void, from where they can never return. Other than that, I think it's a great idea, even the potential for it to be stolen by people running passed the fight (or someone in the fight just grabbing it and running. But I think for that to work properly, a character should also be able to equip a backpack to their hands. That way they can grab 2 backpacks and run, but have to drop 1 of them to even try to defend themself.

i agree.
other than weapons and a hat which are easy to change out, there should be a way to make it so you can't change out a backpack during battle just so you can get rid of the negatives.
Dropping a backpack, the larger the more time consuming this action should be.
changing armour should take the longest,
Light armour/clothes get small time since allready easy to get into
Medium armour longer, have to tighten those clasps and button up those buckles and cinch them tight.
Heavy Armour. usually required two people to help them get into it, course thats full plate but should take a long time to change out.
right now i can hot swap armours i need to fight for certain fights. not very realistic. i do try and refrain from this but i don't always follow my own ingame rules either.
course the big issue is, is this possible to add to the game.
would be nice if it was.

-Yes I think there should be some time for equipping/unequpping items/weapons.
-I do think you should be able to remove a backpack in battle. If you were running around the world and someone let's lose a war cry you would drop your backpack well before melee.
-As for placing a loaded backpack in your inventory I have no issue with it cept perhaps a reduction in the backpacks weight reduction.
-I do believe that backpacks should give a weight reduction as its on your back as it feels less encumbering then having everything in your backpack carried in your hands. Even a backpack in your hand would less encumbering then carrying all the items in your hand.
-perhaps a backpack with a single strap should be made that has a quicker un/equip time but also has less weight reduction and carrying capacity.

If I'm not mistaken, it has already been implemented that items dropped to the ground now appear a short distance above the ground. I've always been able to visibly see AND click items dropped to the ground for a few patches now.

Yeah,
this is a serious exploit, as i run around without pants, until i am attacked, then i put the pants on.
It should take some time to put on heavy samurai pants, and heavy armor in general.
