How can you find more mercs to hire, I tend to only find one merc per town.
Also, what is the best way to gear up? it is quiet annoying doing one guy at a time.
Another question is what is the best equipment to use? Armor wise, Sword wise, hat, shoes, etc.

Thanks for any help.

I'm unsure about what you mean here. Do you mean finding the top level equipment is hard? If so, I suspect this is meant to be the case. If anything, it is too easy to get the best weapons.

If you mean manually equipping guys....then there will eventually be a way to set up 'uniforms' (for lack of a better word) and then tell your guys to go grab those weapons if you have enough stock or go and order them from the blacksmith if stock is insufficient. Of course this stuff isn't implemented yet.

Yep, that's about right. Easiest way is to keep importing your squad to a new game and hiring more guys from the local tavern.

Like Blxz said, you need to do it manually at the moment. Go kill people, take their weapons, and look at armour/weapon shops.

For swords, just pick a sword-type and stick with it. For some reason it's hard to level up an alternative weapon once you're already a level in something else. Armour - pick stuff that has the highest values. I usually choose plate over coats.. It's not really that important to protect your left arm. The shopkeepers have the best shirt in the game. If you knock any out (or see any knocked out), make sure you grab their shirt :). hat/shoes/trousers - again, pick stuff with highest values. Not really much to choose from here.

I left it at Wingwang and bought him for 5000 gold; best investment I ever made. How much do you have to pay to be able to change his name?

Hmmm this was awhile back I did that, if I recall correctly it was another 2500? You could say, can I change your name? And then the last conversation option after his outraged bluster was "How about I throw in another _______"

There is a whole separate thread on this subject already.

But ultimately he asks for 10k and you say

"WHAT! I could get 10 for the price of that"

And the shopkeep is like "You want 10 infinate wingwangs?"

and you are like "Maybe..."

Just keep berating his price and it will come down.
