Of course, the game would have to support sound input in some way.

Would need to be public domain stuff Im sure, but would be cool to see what people put together.
I'm sure you mean ouput. Speakers are an output device allowing for sound to happen.

A mod can simply recommend using specific sounds and music and not provide them. The end user then simply has to drag them into folders or specific areas that the mod is set up for.

@Gamerphate, If you make a mod you own it unless you have some other agreement(s) that counters that.

Yes, it's the wrong subforum.

You know, I just realized that if you want to build a playlist, sites like Songza would work really well. It's a site that has playlists designed for whatever mood you're in, although you can still make your own playlists for whatever theme you're looking for.

Personally, I like the Japanese psychedelic folk songs Nyctrino mentioned, although some non-lyrical western music would go just as well. I especially love The Eagle's non-lyrical song, Journey of the Sorcerer. Seriously, I'm amazed how well that song works for this setting.

I always listen to some form of electronic music - from dub techno to hardstyle, but typically trance. Uplifting trance is my favorite. I do love it all though, except for dubstep. That's not to say that there doesn't exist dubstep pieces which I wouldn't like, as I do like liquid DnB - which sort of sounds like dubstep.
My favorite mix of this one no longer seems to be up on youtube in its full form. :(

Nice man, you sound like the type that would like my internet radio station :) We mainly play electronica, see my post above :)

Technically, it needs input (file, bit rate, etc), when to play markers in game, how to play codec, and output.

My nerd is far superior :P.

Ok let me rephrase that. Yes, you can take credit saying "I made this mod", but you are under no legal position to sell the mod in any form or manner, technically it is a mod for a game not written by you, so therefore you technically do not own the mod.

I say all this cause I worked as part of the beta team for Chernarus Life (the ORIGINAL not the existing knock off version that still exists..more on that in a minute). These guys moded ARMA 2 to include stats not normally in the game, this has been done before. What they did do that was new was that they found a way to have a STATIC server for data, and this means that, the next day after the server resets, GASP, all your stats are still saved! Whereas the current one that still exists (known as the stolen code..more on this shortly as well) does NOT save your stats, and as soon as the server resets it is just a new game and EVERYONE is a noob again, so there was no MMO level of gameplay but more like a FPS.

Now, what happened with them was that they had one server, and it was in Germany, and there were people ALL over the world beta testing. The core problem was when Aussies would try to connect, because they would cause severe packet ping, throwing the latency into the multiple of hundreds, thus overloading the server, and then it would reset. Now, all the saved stats would load, however, if at that time you had things on you, or new stats and had not stopped by the bank to save your stuff, you were S.O.L. and just lost an hour or two of gameplay (PRETTY ANNOYING). So, they ended up offering others the ability to use the code and host their own server. The SECOND this happened, some kid just tore the code apart, put his name on it, and removed all the server code (which obviously he had no way of implementing). And this caused a huge rift in the community, and the original mod devs decided to just abandon the project we had all been working so hard to make happen.

Now I had to say all that above to get to my point here. They made a mod for ARMA 2, it was great, people liked it, they had costs spent developing the mod, and monthly server costs. However, they did not own ARMA 2, so they did not own the mod, and were unable to ever charge for mod development, and thus after spending 2 years or so working on it, just decided to shut down. Now theoretically I suppose anyone can accept "donations" to a certain degree, but as a business model they were doomed.

I didn't get with the the team that did Dayz, but I am sure the original guys didn't see a penny of the money. Not to mention I have a theory they didn't even make WarZ or have a hand in making it. So in the end, they made a great idea that someone else used to make a ton of money. Granted the spin off was buggy and flawed, which gave more pull to the original mod which is great and all, but in the end it is ARMA 2 that profits....

CLIFF NOTES - If you don't write the software you don't own the mod. You can claim ownership in a title credit but you do not actually own the mod.

I listen to audio books while I game, it's a habit I got into awhile back, and anything without a ton of reading or exposition will usually end up with the music muted and an audio book going in the background.

That is the problem .. no codec... he isn't writing this game in Unity... I believe it is from scratch, so its not as easy as going here is sound file, play this.

There is NO system setup to play sound at all in the game.

This would make adding sound to the game through a mod PRETTY damn hard... not to mention by the time you build something he might get close to doing it himself, and now your mod is useless, and you just wasted X amount of months for nothing.

I tried something differant. IMHO, Kenshi, as the name implies, as well as the characters and weapons, looks like a cross between a Kurosawa movie of warring samurai clans and Herberts DUNE. What I did was to download ancient Japanese court and samurai music played on shamisen [ three-stringed instrument], simply off of YouTube and make my own little version of the ''Seven Samurai'' or ''Kagamunga'' with some cool 14th century licks accompanying the massive slaughter of my former tormenters as I bore down on them with ''25/25'' men bearing ring sabres ...

Can you stop advertising your radio station here. Almost half the posts you have made in this thread have involved discussion of that.

Also, I like your display picture. Cutest hedgehog ever.

Sorry about that .. in all fairness I think I made like 2 posts.. the one you quoted MIGHT of been where I pushed the line .. but the guy literally posted he liked the exact lineup style of what my station plays. This being said... sorry about all that .. just got excited cause my station could fill a temporary niche while the game is unable to produce sound.

Now if you notice the other half of my posts in this thread are primarily on just audio related technical speculations. This being said, I will refrain from pluging it further, mah bad.

On a side note ... YES .. that literally is the cutest hedgehog ever... I don't think it even really exists... no one ANYWHERE has one that looks like this for sale :( I wasn't even into hedgehogs until randomly one day I saw that pic and now I kind of want one pretty bad XD

I put my iTunes on shuffle and deal with it, if I' listening to music at all.
Recently, I've just had the TV on, since I've moved my laptop to my couch like a lazy bum, for Spring Break.

Though sometimes my iTunes works beautifully. Once got Requiem for a Dream right when my starting character got knocked out. Or the time I fought off two groups of bandits and the Holy Empire to the sound of Catgroove.

I listen to the Firefly OST. I think it works really well with this game.

If you want music for the game, you guys ought to try the soundtrack from Sukiyaki Western Django.

It's a crazy Japanese western with Quentin Tarantino. Fits Kenshi pretty well.

I often listen to Lonely Island while playing this game.

I just took the ninja and threw him on the ground.

I am only beginning to appreciate just how unbelievably amazing Japanese drum troupes go with this game. I mean, seriously, listen to this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdiDubSzNNY

Fucking yes, please, I would kill to have this music in game. Even the calm, ambient music would be amazing to listen to as you walk around. But those drums... oh sweet Christ in a handbasket, those DRUMS...

I haven't actually listened to anything while playing yet. I'll probably have a Rooster-teeth let's play running in the background. They're entertaining enough.

I guess so far I've been just trying to figure out what to do, how to do it, and why my new minion has tried to pick a fight with a group of bandits who could easily murder us.
Seriously, he tried to pick a fight with a Sand ninja a while ago.
