Readers,
When I donated, I knew it was greatly influenced by asian themes, but I didn't donate to play exactly. I donated because it was a good idea.
With that said, I think samurai and ninja are played out. I cringe when I see oversized swords that have no place in a realistic setting. When I see katana or its variants. If it weren't for some of the art style, I would likely play the game and enjoy it a lot... It is just hard getting past that.
I would prefer it with a European backdrop, personally. I would play the game then. Of course, it isn't being developed for me, thus it is just personal preference. I don't regret my decision to contribute to it's development either way.
Besides...I would choose a German Zweihander complete with parrierhaken, ricasso, and side rings over a katana any day. ^.-
Just sayin',
Michael

I think European equipment would be an awesome addition to kenshi, but the really good stuff could only be found in the heart of a faction which they would guard with there lives (also you couldn't make the stuff without someone with the proper training or guidance).
there wouldn't be a problem with plate armor in the desert since smart people wouldn't be wearing it until they thought for sure they would get in a fight.
also since we have planks and cleavers I don't think broad swords would make a difference.

Hmmmmm...
Sticking to the theme, what if you add mostly all the 'oriental' weapons? Like:
Naginata/Yari (pole-arm weapons, naginata = axe + spear and a yari is just a spear, both two-handed)
Odachi (basically a two-handed 'great' katana)
Tanto/Sai (daggers. Well, one is)
A Stick (like that guy from TMNT)
Jian/Ninjaken (both straight swords, one has two sides)
3 Section Staff (probably too hard to make??)
Dao (Chinese sabre, like a shamshir, except not as curved)
Would this be a possible idea?
EDIT:
Woooaahhh, my bad. I just saw another forum already discussing this

+1 From me in the case of weapons, as far as armor goes maybe leather/chainmail i can see but i think plate would be a bit much, however i can see it as pieces of plate such as Elite Gladiator and Vabbian armor from Guild Wars (Will add pics) things of that nature i can understand far more because they are less restricting and would be far more feasible in a desert environment.

...Armor takes a very long time to put on. Knights had squires for a reason- they couldn't get their own armor on. It's bulky, heavy, and doesn't fit with people who want to patrol. That being said, even if you wanted to sit in a base in your heavy plate, the desert would cook you alive. Picture a hot oven... and put yourself inside. I would love to fight someone in plate armor in a desert, because they would just collapse from exhaustion.wolfwood296 wrote:there wouldn't be a problem with plate armor in the desert since smart people wouldn't be wearing it until they thought for sure they would get in a fight.
But regardless of whether or not plate armor makes sense, I don't think we should want or not want it in the game. It's Chris' game, and he's made it pretty clear that this is his game and his idea. I'm just taking a guess, but it doesn't seem like European plate armor really jives with the rest of the game concept.

Personally im for the variants in the armor and weapons category. Like what iSuck45 had said weapons and armor from all over the world. For example i would like to see the Hawaiian Koa sharktooth club, or a Danish Great Axe, also running around the jungle in a jaguar suit that i crafted myself from the jaguar that i killed. The German Zweihander is my personal favorite thought. but to go along with that i would like to see the Zulu spears and shields and other middle eastern weapons. as well as greek and roman. Hell even put in fantasy weapons, NOT magical but the really cool looking swords and axes you see in other games just without the magical powers. like the Deadric axes and swords of the elder scrolls seires
To put it plainly i would like to see it all. No matter from where

Or maybe even some rapiers or Indian/Sri Lankan swords.Milkman The Great wrote:Personally im for the variants in the armor and weapons category. I would kinda like to see the katar also something else i think would be pretty cool would be have different fighting stances, like fencing, shinkendo. and possibly implement unarmed warfare so having different fighting styles for that as well like Karate, Thai boxing, normal boxing, hell maybe even let it take it to the ground and throw in some jujitsu and wrestling.along with the other hand to hand fighting styles i think that would be pretty cool.
Daggers would be pretty cool along with the rapiers. and actually hand axes and throwing hatchets

i completely agree once chris adds in more biome make different nations with different cultures from all over the world china middle east america ect
just make them from before guns
the most common armor was a quilted padding everywhere except africa and us and canada and the pacific
the 2nd most common was chain
you also have coats of plates and lammelar and scale
then you have the plate that the elite of the elite of the elite used in europe
and plate was used in the desert during the crusades
lorica used by rome was used in the desert and that was plate
add them all but make them rare acordingly

So given the recent onset of dwarves and half-giants in kenshi, I'd like to mention a specific desire for two new weapon types: Axes and Hammers. I feel that both could fit in well with the kenshi universe, and allow for a greater variation of characters. And to clear up one thing right away, I mean both historical war hammers (used for puncturing armor, they're more like a pickaxe) and the sort of giant blunt sledge hammers you see in games like Fable, Bethesda games, and virtually any mmorpg.

I really just want to see some polearms added in.
If you guys give me a list of weapons like generalized to what you want I could give making them a shot that is to say I'd probably be a bit busy next week but I can fit in making weapons into my semester break.
I also made a spear/halberd thing that I might texture/add in later when they add animations sometime in the future.

Weapon Concepts
So far I'm working on Buster Sword, Auron's Masamune, Bows, Mace, Dark Knight Halbred, Zangetsu, Guts' Dragon Slayer, Zweihander, Baselard, Daedric Two handed axe, and more to follow.

The problem with modding in different weapons as someone suggested earlier, is that European weapons look really stupid with Asian fighting styles. Because the sword styles are completely different. Hopefully there will be a way to mod animations later.
I think Plate armor is a good idea, but just for OTHER biomes
it makes no sense that bandits wear a heavy armor in desert, but an bandit boss in grasslands sounds realistic to me...
maybe every diffrent biom includes a special "culture" with speacial weapons and armor..
I think when there will be diffrent biomes, it´s necessary to use diffrent styles of armor, or would you go just with an "Heart Protector" into snow biom?
kay, i know things like this will release very very later that, but somewhen...

Well you could just make it different fighting styles, like how theres different types of martial arts (which by the way i saw as a stat for the game recently
I'm entirely OK with Kenshi staying 7 samurai x mad max x blade runner. Just as I'm entirely OK with any other game limiting it's setting. Especially since there is already so much development left to do in Kenshi on new/upgraded features and bug fixes.
Because you can mod it.
Want to add a new animation set for long swords, add new weapon types, weapon skills, weapon models, etc. Do eeet. Does not have to be part of the base game.
What would be awesome is if you could formally submit work to the lofi team for inclusion in the actual game and get your name in the credits. :] Unfortunately there are copyright issues, etc to worry about :[
