Hello all, picked up kenshi a while back and i'm progressing pritty well, got my own town and a bunch of guys who are all fairly strong. The main problem i've been encountering is my laptop really seems to dislike playing kenshi. Overheating pritty much every time i play it has led me to some less than inovative solutions such as holding the dam thing over my head trying to let more air get to it before the final black screen.
Now my question is, does anyone a bit more computer literate than myself know of any way to help solve this? i've tried overclocking my fans but it seems thats not an option on the laptop i have. its a lenovo ideapad. I'm guessing the reason its sucking every ounce of my computers power is because its still in development and not been optimised yet, but if anyone has any ideas as sort of a temporary fix i'd be greatful.
Overheating =(
Lenovo's usually run a bit hot, but not as bad as you're describing it. You may want to invest in some air duster and Google methods on how to dust out intake fans on laptops, etc. There may be something interfering with the air flow, or piece of hardware may be running abnormally hot -- like the CPU. Thing is, Laptops are generally going to run hot based on their sizing and how the heat is distributed. There are also laptop "cooling stations" you can try, but they're not going to really solve your problem honestly... Maybe make it a little more tolerable to be placed on your knees, but they wont really solve performance problems associated with overheating, except in occasional cases.
thanks for the reply, its always run a little on the hot side but kenshi it just goes overboard, i tried getting a program to overclock the fans that registered the temperature at 117 degrees, which is probably not healthy for the laptop. i'll do as you've suggested and try to get the dust clear of the fans and maybe try a cooling station. I think the reality might be that its just getting a bit old, its been gettign worse for the past year or so, might be time to start thinking about picking a new one up.
On a side note, really enjoying the game, keep up the good work =).

Do you have Vsync enabled? Vsync will make sure your video card only produces as many frames as your display can handle, it may help keep your temps down a bit, but it does sound like the main part of the problem is airflow. Still, Vsync might help a bit, so it's worth enabling if you haven't already.
Cooling is pretty much always going to be an issue with any laptop. I recommend turning off any background programs you have running and if you are running windows you should also turn off aero and switch to basic. This will lower the load on your processor and reduce your temps, also you should obviously lower the settings on the actual game. If you think you have excess dust I recommend taking the case apart to dust it rather then just taking a can of compressed air to the vents since most of the dust will just stay in the laptop (although taking apart your laptop will void your warranty so you will probably want to avoid that if it's still under one). Like someone else said before me you can buy fan mats or pads which definitely help.
