But it kinda takes a while to get a full still (5/5) so in the meanwhile u can run around and check 1s in a while.
For the defending part: the people that arent assigned to do anything will automaticaly attack any1 that comes close
And since my outpost is build on plateau with only 1 way up they cant miss enemies
hmm ive got a screen shot of "me"' lying around here somewhere. ill post 1s ive changed the format

Is that iddleness? If I remember correctly, ALL of the space marines specifically said "Heresy comes from iddleness".

Just started myself on an outpost after playing for quite a while without one. Here is an early screenshot of it. Worked on it a little more than an hour.
(fullsize 1920x1080 Pixels, link for a better view. http://www.lofigames.com/phpBB3/downloa ... hp?id=1361)
Credit for the katana goes to guillaumon on DA, I found it through google.
As it says 96 hours, that will be ingame hours. as this is the end of ingame day 4. started at around 3 am day 210, so I will go with 00:00 day 210 as starting point. However this was actually when I decided to build here, needed myself some building materials to start first, so day one was nothing but running to shark to buy em.

Are you sure fabric isn't a better value proposition for sale to a town? The fabric item is a 2x3, for a total of 6 squares. It weighs 1 KG, and has a default value of 300. Rum is a 4x3, for a total of 12 squares, exactly the size of two fabrics laid vertically on top of each other. It weighs 4 KG, and has a default value of 500. If you had rum worth +10% and fabric worth -10%, they would be equal in price, but it's still only half as heavy to tote around fabric as rum, making it easier and faster to do fabric runs.theunfrailhale wrote:yeah, my priority has been building materials for the moment. I was just looking at the trade value for rum thoughSmiley wrote:Edit: ow u only have 1 thingy to make alcohol ( ive got 4 of those and 3 ovens) :pso I will probably build a structure for the sole purpose of a distillery.
At least, that's my thinking on it so far, and why I'm selling fabric instead of rum.
One thing I haven't tried out yet is exactly how many man-hours it takes to produce 1 wheatstraw and then distill into rum vs. produce 1 hemp and craft it into fabric, so no idea which one is faster to produce.
Here's my outpost, which I named Dune.
As you can guess, since we don't have walls yet and I'm in the open, there are attacks fairly often.
It's located Northeast of Clownsteady, in the dark brown on the map where there's a flat patch in the middle of the dunes.

man, way to school my economics. But yeah, looks like you're on to something. Fabric did seem to have a comparatively long production time... It would be interesting to see what the numbers actually crunch out to. I wonder how dynamic Chris will make the market, for example, is it possible to flood the market with a certain type of good? at this point, that doesn't seem to be in place, and i'm guessing it wont be an immediate priority, but it could make things interesting for us hay-seeds.Argus wrote:Are you sure fabric isn't a better value proposition for sale to a town? Another couple of screens of my outpost as it progresses.
Here it is at 12 ingame days. progressing quite nicely if you ask me. Also started up weapon production. http://www.lofigames.com/phpBB3/downloa ... hp?id=1383
Here it is almost 5 hours later. Have been very slow advancing forwards, mostly just been sitting waiting for researches to fininish. But at least the town is starting to take shape now. http://www.lofigames.com/phpBB3/downloa ... hp?id=1384
PS: I also got myself my very own Infinite Wingwang

Yeah. I mean, until fuel is added, aren't generators more power per unit of building material?Smiley wrote:Ow boy in the open ...u need a zillion miles of walls :p
Haha, i dont think it matters that much in this early stage of the game, now i just get rich and well supplied. No wind generators for u it seems
I said that and then I found an actual example... I had been selling fabric to Clownsteady, and instead went to Brink. The fabric there was selling at 82% or so of default value, while rum was 112% or something like that. So... check your prices before going to a town, I guess.theunfrailhale wrote:man, way to school my economics. But yeah, looks like you're on to something. What's really going to be interesting is when commodities prices change dynamically when factions start buying everything up for their own uses, or just after trade caravans hit a location and strip all of a particular trade good from the local market...
Chris can really do neat things with the economy if he has the time/funding for it...looking forward to seeing it, too.

I have to say I was never a fan of the whole square design a lot of the buildings here go with. I mean, I plan the general outline out, but don't make little boxes.

Just saying, I definitely would've built on the raised ground behind your camp, but I do like the way you've laid everything out.
I was trying to minimize distance between any two activities/storage containers, so as to decrease down time and maximize productivity (I may or may not have majored in Economics in college).SirChuckles wrote:I have to say I was never a fan of the whole square design a lot of the buildings here go with. This is especially relevant now that my fabric loom crafters seem hellbent to all leave their stations and rush to my weaponsmith the very SECOND he goes from 10 fabric down to 9.
*sigh*
Yeah I found nice little spot off to the side with 2 main city's close by.
Mostly protected on 3 sides, and if they want to get to me their is one way in and out..

I'm thinking the hills around Catan are the only ones with such shape on the entire map. Since he said it would be close to two cities, I guess it is somewhere in between Catan and Shark.
From the looks of the screenshots though it seems more likely to be that spot a little to the south of Catan.
