So ive patched my game, and started reaserch on weapons crafting. on 3x speed i didnt get to the good part in my 40 min session.

couple of questions. if i have 2 reaserch benchs, will reaserch go faster?
if not. pls make them do so. or atleast make a bench i can have more workers focusing on.

my man got 90++ in science and waiting for reaserch to be done feels like playing farmville or evony or any waiting game -_-
Playing pc games since 1997.
Playing Snes since 1993.
Playing xbox since... wait, i dont play that shit.!

More research benches speeds up the job. Bigger research benches do the same.
And yes, research takes a long time. You really can't complain at such a low level, either.
Weapon Crafting 14 takes 102 hours.

Building an Outpost S-IV takes 96. Best get started.

About time research slowed down. It should be a gradual thing, I don't want best tech 20 minutes after building a base.

Currently research benches and skill don't seem to properly affect research speed. While right now a second research bench has no effect, previously we saw a reduced effect for additional benches, so rather than purely cumulative output, when the research benches and skill are corrected it will still take significant resources to reduce the time of any given research. However, we have reason to assume that a 95+ science skill researcher will reduce the time requirement to about 1/3rd of the current times due to the fact that the skill ratio listed in the characters info pane lists the output as science 2.9, and at this time we don't know what affect a top tier research bench will have on research speed.

There is a topic about the fact that research benches are not scaling properly in the bug reports section of the forum. http://www.lofigames.com/phpBB3/viewtop ... f=9&t=3618

In the future research is likely to have additional factors beyond simply waiting for time to elapse while you take a nap. It is likely once concerted attempts to destroy outposts are implemented, as well as a few other upcoming features, and we are on a version of the map closer to the final version we will have to establish and defend research outposts near specific locations in order to gain knowledge from artifacts in ruins or something of that nature. This will add a much more interesting reason to fully outfit your squads and train them as much as possible before setting out to attempt to gain additional technologies. The current system of research is effectively a placeholder, and while it is entirely likely that these high level researches will still be time consuming there will be a lot more to do during the interval that you are conducting research than staring at a progress bar.

I have been doing practical things while watching the research bar fill up, crafting fabric on the loom, making bread, brewin rum, filling up a house full of ore in preparation for weapons crafting etc.

Did you want a game you could play for 5 hours and be done with it? Research is supposed to take a significant time investment so that you feel a sense of achievement when it's done. If you wanted to instantaneously be able to do anything, download the God mode mod.

Research is still too fast.one long play session seems to be enough to finish the tree, maybe a solid real day.

On the positive side, theres more research that needs to be added,so that will likely greatly increase the time needed to finish the tree.

BUT that still leaves individual research sections, like weapons, too easy to finish.Things that could help...
*skill levels tied to research- cant research weapon 14 without a max skill tied to it-like possibly a smithing skill

*special materials tied to research- cant research weapon 14 without first finding a specific ore type,or mixture of ores

*accidents tied to it- high end techs like weapon 14 have a chance of high end accidents which could - for example damage or destroy the bench required for the reseach, making the player demolish the old bench and build a new one

etc...

Weapon 14 is just a place holder for examples.Such "speed brakes" should apply to most high end techs.

I have noticed a difference when creating multiple research benches. With one bench with a 90+ science guy, it takes 1.4 game hours to complete an hour of tech. With 5+ benches it reduced the time to 1 game hour for each tech hour.

I believe the research time is appropriate. I see no problem with the current design.

Imo research time is appropriate and desirably long. As articulated above, the longer times coming from an expanded tree will be in line with my preference for a game of this magnitude.

Having to adventure out into the world to establish and defend research outposts in order to obtain tech seems like an incredible amount of fun. I'm gonna make a suggestion post here in a couple minutes thanks to you. ;D
