Dont know if this has been discussed and to what level of detail but when the factions are overhauled, I think their governments are important considerations. Not only would it add diversity and character to each faction it could also play a big role in the whole 'dynamic events'.

It could range from democratic republic's, constitutional monarchies, military regimes (or even some sort of futuristic military society where war is essential to the state and every being but is not necessarily authoritarian, in the sense that every citizen fells obliged to follow/fight for the good of the nation), a pseudo-communism, a religious cult with a priest/shaman leader etc.

All of these should have an effect on the citizen's with ideals spreading or disappearing.
For example a democratic falling because of its failures in certain areas to be replaced by peasant communism, that then was lead by an authoritarian leader or just fully libertarian. Or a military society removing their leader because of constant military defeat, replacing him with another. A religious shaman being overthrown by the apparent divine messiah of their religion.

All of these can go on with or without the players help, or even being stopped by the player.
Would certainly add to the diversity of the game with sometime democracy being achieved in all realms, or then empires built from monarchs.
If government buildings: parliaments politburos, congress' being added also.

Just brainstorming but it would certainly be something that I would be enjoy in the game.Though i'd just share it.......... :D

Why did you make 2 threads about this?
"Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as useful."

Brilliant input there...........

I didn't realise I had, and it would be logical to assume it was a mistake.....

I think this is a brilliant idea.
But maybe it should come with some requirements, for example if you had to have a minimum of 40-50 men in order to organize a government.

Such a feature would have to be added after increased squad sizes and politics has been implemented, but it's a good idea nonetheless. :)

Well I Like the idea, As I mentioned in a topic on the forum (About Emmi and Immigration), some government types are more enticing for different kinds of people. Say people who live in squalor under a military dictatorship, might be more interested in the pesudo-Communist idea, because well, Work and you get food, shelter and all the things you need, on a very basic level, instead of lying in the streets.

This sounds like an odd thing to be able to program well, I am not sure how well a "political ideology" would fit into player made factions. The ability to control every aspect of your faction isn't assured, so there could be in the future when hirelings are added, the ability to have them all have a predisposition to various flavors of governing. However, it would create a lot of work for the AI, and I am not sure how much it would be able to affect gameplay options.

Would a Theocracy create the need to use extreme discipline to indoctrinate the unbelievers? Would a society based upon the work a man does mean that your soldiers were inclined to pursue other opportunities when they weren't at war? Would a Despotic situation result in an overthrow of one leader for another? How would that work given that as the player you aren't a single person, and your starting character can die.

I'm not sure how to deal with this code-wise, and I am not sure how much it would add to the game. While factions back-stories can add to the game, I am unsure how this feature would add any more than just various predetermined assigned philosophies that may contradict one another.

I have little knowledge of coding, but there are games already existent that have a similar system. Tropico for instance each citizen has some predetermined 'personalities' what they like the government to do or how it acts. In essence this would be the same but with maybe a little built on top. Maybe the ability for 'political personalities' to adapt or differ slightly or shifting populations. As for a players own factions, why have the ability to mold a hirelings predisposition? If he doesnt like your ideology why would he join you? Failing that some hirelings may not give a flying F what your ideology is. As long as they get paid, or as long as it means they have food and a bed it could be assumed that they gladly join you.

Although it would indeed add alot to the game. Developing each faction's character and structure. Adding to this some players might naturally feel less inclined to ally or help a certain faction due to their government type. Or for instance if someone had developed a character who's disposition was naturally greedy or evil it would add to their characters development, as they could then chose to create or form an authoritarian or autocratic government. Not to mention a main aim for the developer of a the creation of dynamic world. How factions interact with eachover an the player is key to this.

I understand it may be difficult to program, however the possibilities are huge. It would certainly be an idea to include if possible.
