I'd see something more "steampunk" you see.
Some rusted iron arm, which can move just like a normal arm, no more, no less, but is rusted because of the sand, water, etc... and is more coherent in Kenshi's universe.

We could have some different levels of prosthetic limbs, depending on the research lvl of your faction, allowing more "hp" to said limb (instead of 100 for right arm, you'll get 125 for instance, or 75 if it's a lower lvl limb), or a wood leg with no more than 50 HP, making the character always limp, but at least able to walk, allowing more differents styles of limbs (big ones, clean, rusted, crappy, woody leg, etc...)

This, leading to permanent scars and injuries on flesh and bone limbs, lowering the maximum of HP of the limb, obligating people to replace sometimes a limb with a mechanical one :)
This, also leading in a new stat, like mechanics, who could repair damaged mechanical limbs, and medic (no field medic, but real surgeon) who could heal a not too much injuried limb, restoring it's max HP closer to 100 :D

Just throwing ideas. I got tons like that

And this ain't even it's final form!

Nah I'm just messing with you guys... seriously now, we need awesome prosthetic limbs and crappy wood sticks on people's legs (chris is gonna get one of these once he starts playing his own game).

Audio log 52, day 256

Our encampment was attacked by some ninjas today. Bloody bastards took our God damn fuel, our settlement has no power. We're sending out a party of 5 to the nearest town. It will include myself, jinsei our most skilled fighter,2 of our newish recruits and our best medic.

Audio log 53, day 256

We're pretty close, preparing to set up camp. We ran into some bandits but we handled em well. One of our recruits got a gash on his arm, but shit happens eh
(distant yelling)
Bloody hell, not those religious fanatics.
(Sound of swords unsheathing, metallic rings of blades and yelling fill the air. The tape ends with the sound of a clean cut and a groan of pain.)

Audio log 54, day 260

I'm alive, wish I wasn't. One of our recruits and medic were both killed. Jinseis arm was cut off. I woke up after the conflict and bandaged our parties wounds. Jinseis still in a bed along with the recruit. All I got was a headache, pretty lucky.

Audio log 55, day 308

Jinsei has finally regained all his faculties.Except for the arm. Some traders came and we bought plenty of scrap. We're going with windmills now.We also bought this strange looking piece of machinery, came with a manual. It's called automail. But right now we can't work on some rusted piece of junk. I have to convince jinsei to get off his ass. Maybe he can train the new guys.

Audio log 56, day 320

My new chief medic has been reading through the manual and he said what he found was amazing. He has told me the weird looking piece of scrap is a prosthetic limb. With Jinseis permission he has began connecting nerve endings to this thing that looks like a shoulder guard. Sounds painful. We have also assigned our engineer to start building a replica of the old rusted robotic arm.Thing runs on a battery attached to a backpack. Pain in the ass to make but I think having our best fighter back is worth it.

TL;DR

I was bored and wrote a story about my dream game scenario. But when it comes to limbs in game, hard to make and maintain . Engineer needed to repair arm after combat, sturdier compared to regular arms.

and fullmetal alchemist is pretty great, watch it.

We can assume that people are keeping the samouraï's spirit, while still taking old saber and bladed weapon (samouraï even hated the bow, considering it as a non-noble weapon in medieval japan).

The samurai were taught bows to, the yumi. It was taught to them even before the sword. They were also skilled with the spear (yari) and naginata.

Well, it's been a while since the last time I have been here...
Guess nothing did really change.

My opinion is that such a cool feature shouldn't be refused for questions of lore. Because seriously, as far as we know, the background is not (for now) the proeminent feature in Kenshi. There is no story about where we are, when we are, who we are, or whatever the hell you ask for. No story means no limit. Chris could suddenly make this IN SPACE ! But he won't(I guess :? ) simply because that's not what we are here for.
So yeah, for me, amputation is obviously a good thing, but about replacement, anything is fine to me as long as it is not too far-fetched.

Steampunk: why not? After all, there are not that many steampunk games around here... And it's a cool genre. However, keep it limited, no steampunk juggernauts, no A.I, etc.
I believe firearms too could be here, it's just a matter of not having too much.

I don't want this game to be about Japanese fanboys. I love Japanese culture - but this is not Japan, and I also love robots. Screw Japanese historical accuracy, play Shogun for that. This is about grungy rust Samurai's fighting with prosthetic arms in some unnamed dystopia.

i was looking some old updates and i found THIS

--Planned features --

*Blah blah
*Blah blah
*Limb amputation, and robotic replacements
*Blah blah
*Blah blah

Now, robotic replacements? i hope chris doesnt do that, that breaks the theme completely
What theme?
If chris said no to the musket, then how are we going to get robotic limps?
According to this line of thinking, the game should already have guns since there are engines in the game. And if robotic limbs are introduced that doesn't mean previous or parallel technologies to robotics have to be implemented for the game to "make sense". Mainly because where would you draw the line (i.e. Well the game has robotics so it should have nukes and hdtv)? The game's technologies and ambience have been pulled from typically unrelated influences. The dev just created his own world.

Amputation is a good thing and I'd love to see it and for those who mentioned that if there were robotic replacements, then why not muskets and lasers? Lets look outside the box, Kenshi isn't set in a replica of the Earth we live on and there's a possibility that gun powder would not have been found and robotics could have advanced.

Kenshi's base from what I've seen is a post apocalyptic world..so some technology could still be around. Who is to say all the gun powder wasn't used in a great war that brought about the end of the modern ages and reverted it to the world we begin in?

There's a lot of possibilities, don't say a feature isn't quality because it doesn't fit into the constraints of the world we live in. While Kenshi is realistic, it doesn't need to follow the exact replica of Earth.

Still has no setting but a lot tend to go with that when i am rather close to the simple:

With that simply said, he can do what he want with his own explanation, pre apoc or not, he can find a simple way to have robotic limbs, or variants, and have no conections to guns, just because there some mechanics for a thing doesn t mean you must get mechanics or advancement to all. Like Dragen said, gotta think outside the box.
It s Hbrown!! Gotta get some pies!
