When I leave town, I lock my scientists in a room in case I forget to check on them every few minutes. It's either that, or I don't leave. Putting aside walls, which of course will come later, there are a few other options to make the base more secure:

Traps! Snares, pits, projectile, and other exotic varieties. They could be set up outside the walls to hold enemies in place while your archers fire down on them. A massive swinging hammer could be placed in a strategic narrow walkway, smashing any enemies' faces that dared to walk through.

Turrets? There's got to be some benefit to sitting behind your walls. Sure, ranged weapons (once we get them), but how about some heavy artillery? I was thinking something like a seat and oversized slinshot that rotate on ball bearings. Of course the sand would get in it, but still...

Anyone else have ideas?

For the moment gunpowder and fireweaponseast thati saw still no yes or no to them, tho i guess i might have an unknow desteny, ta las well say most likely no, and poor cows...

Till now seen in game as option, just seen turrts, which i am curious to know how they gona be, and i would be curious to know if cataculpts wi be inserted or not for sieging, tho i would rather not see for some reason, i prefer a ninja approach, "Climb the walls!!". But something tells me a bit, that the turret might be a sort of balista :? .

There will be turrets, although how they'll work hasn't been disclosed. I personally imagine them to be not automated weapon emplacements, but rather manned by archers. This would make sense, in that is the actual historical context of the concept of the turret, long before weapons were mounted on "turrets" to give people the ability to fire weapons in many directions instead of a fixed point. Turrets would allow you to rain arrows down on foes attacking your walls or gates, and if they breached them, your defenders on the ground would be able to hold the line near enough to them that your archers could continue to rain arrows down into the battle, although friendly fire at that point seems like a given. Still, Chris hasn't mentioned his idea for the turrets he plans to implement, however I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that he intends for there to be anything like a tower defense scenario with automated turrets and wall mazes. Even if there were catapults to counter that sort of thing, the very notion doesn't exactly fit with the Kenshi universe or the game as it stands IMHO. Hence my belief that when Chris says "turret" he may well be using it in a way more akin to its original meaning of a small tower that protrudes from a wall.

I guess a sort of crowssbow but as multiple mounted in one, that would allow a fast shooting of some in line, and then a great time to load or either a second person to help the load, tho that goes somehwat of turret context i believe..

Once ranged weapons are implemented, I'd like to see towers - maybe even ones that can be placed directly into walls - that you can put sentries in, offering them protection from close range enemies and possibly a little protection from enemy fire.

But definitely, automated turrets would be wonderful to have.

I created a topic after seeing this, it gave me the idea of that if we have to defend our bases then so should they, and ofcourse to ensure there is always bases on the map AI create bases constantly.
I didnt post it here just because i know we are already going to have some form of base defense so i figured it would be better as a new topic of its own.

But they do have to defend, what you can do, the AI can aswell. It s not a 1 side game, if you read the description it even tells you so, "You are not the center of the univese, you are a part of it", something like it, so it s just natural to assume that such stuff will be happening from the AI around you, not just you.

Assuming is fine but there has never been a game that has all the things i "assume" from just reading the descroption provided.

remember this is an "Ideas" forum hbrown and while many of the ideas would already have been implemented if the game was made without the public. There would be many assumptions that never happen because ideas were not provided to the Dev.

If you want to help and enjoy a great game, stop seeing all the negative in everones ideas simply because you didnt think of it.

Now that was just unnecessary and so wrong Lol. Exactly is the ideas forum, some post ideas, other post in there to agree, disagree or discuss, which was what i been doing all around, call it negative if you wil i was simply inputing a piece f my mind, nothing related to me think or not, if i have ideas i will just post, i will not bash others ideas just for not being mine. And in a lot of my posts if you look, with such assumptions i tend to say in my opinion or even to correct me. And even in this post i was not even being nor negative nor denying something, was just telling a thing which has been told here and i seen, and is in the game description, so a reminder so to say.

And like i said, some like the ideas, others not, people are in their right to discuss them, negative or positive, like i heard someone say here, "Attack the ideas, not the creater.".

That's one of the cardinal rules in the forum rules, and personal attacks will result in a swift response from the moderators.

how about a vat of boiling oil or tar that can be placed ontop of the gate into towns or your town, that when it is interacted with by one of your squad drops its load which covers the area below in a damage per second layer of nasty stuff on the floor?
