I know this might sound like I'm discussing a book but actually this book or collection of the series would greatly contribute to this game design. If the moderators think it's in the wrong location feel free to move this topic to a more suitable place.
I'm not sure if everyone have heard of these novels by Sam Barone but they are really good. A tale about how a barbarian rise to became a captain of the guards then a king of a city which grew into an empire:

The writer had worked hard in discussion with many people and experts in terms of weaponry, agriculture and even worked out a dynamic world in his novel how economy and population would affect the growth of a city, an empire and even the strength of a faction.
It's too huge a topic to explain unless you read the books yourself. For example one of the city merchant lord had lectured the hero on the importance of gariculture which formed the backbone of the economy how it could fund trade, craftmen and the military. How the rising power of a faction could safely protect a region from bandits. How alliance with barbarian clans could prevent invasion from aggresive hordes of barbarians. How the increase of village that grow into cities would contribute to the strength of the leading faction city...so on and so forth.
Not to mention in the story there is a gradual increase of technology with every chapter and every book...the weaponry and construction and the changing politics or culture. How farmers become brave defenders then into soldiers and the best and bravest of them are consolidated into sort of a knighthood, a clan of brothers in arms called the Hawk Clan (yeah I think the writer might be a fan of Berserk).
Sam Baroned have worked hard (I believe around 6 or 7 years) researching and discussing stuff that in turn became a good novel. I think it's better to adapt to a well designed method and innovate rather than inventing something new. By using the ideas simulated by these novels it would provide an excellent framework to design and finetune the dynamics and ever changing game world of Kenshi.
Read it yourselves and you could see how close the novel world resembles the world of Kenshi...swords, warriors, desert and all...
