Out of curiosity, what kind of weapons do you prefer to use?
How is your character build? Is he strength oriented? Dexterity oriented?

Personally, I'm rocking a heavy weapon user who currently has somewhere around 109 strength.
He can take down an entire town by himself, simply because he can hit nearly 400 damage in a swing.

Anybody else have a super powerful character?

I like the katanas, simply because they're similar to the shape of the bokkens we use when sparring/training. :D My character(s) are usually defence driven, but when I found Zed somewhere in a bar, he had pretty decent stats, and together we were pretty much dominating the desert.

I'm really liking the big katanas, found a horse-chopper a while back but i might give the heavy weapons a go. Normal katanas are solid too, well the non-rusted ones are.

Hi all !

I'm partial to the No-Dachi (can't remember it's in game name sorry). It's got a bit more chopping power than your standard katana without the BFG look happening.

Temper

Edit: Oh oops,it's called katana extended in game.

EditEdit: Actually in game it's called a Topper

Anyhow, I'm liking the plank right now, equal parts crushing and cutting damage, and it builds your strength a ton.
End result is that you beat the crap out of people with it. Hitting people and putting them at -140 in one swing is common....

If there was a naginata I would stick with it. Now I gonna try to learn hacker. BTW does it have any real analogues? Because I've never heard about it.

One of my characters is rocking a plank that gives something like 4.3 blunt damage. Blunt damage is influenced by strength, and my guy just happens to have something like 109 strength.

It is SO satisfying to see him take out 4-5 guys in a single swing, doing upwards of 400 damage to each person.

The most a plank gets is 2.4 cut and 4.0 blunt.
100 was supposed to be pretty much the absolute max on stats, the fact that someone has reach it so quickly is a problem.
<_< Where the heck did you find 4-5 guys sitting on top of eachother.

I found a bunch of people when I attacked towns.

I raised my skills really fast by attacking entire towns with a lone character. If you swing through a bunch of people at once, it tends to raise your attack skill much faster.
I like to do hit and run tactics. Since mobs tend to bunch together when they're running to a single point (me in this case), all I really need to do is double back after running a short distance and take a big swing. At that point, most of the guards have clumped up, letting me hit a ton of them at once.

After I take out the town, I import my squad and start a new game.

Also, about the max stats of the plank:
I'm definitely sure that the max blunt attack in the plank is not 4.0. Perhaps the manufacturer of the weapon can modify the stats? What I think is that each weapon has a base stat, and that stat is then modified by whatever weapon manufacturer created the weapon. The plank I use, for example, has 4.3 blunt. It was manufactured by Rags.

Yeah, I know the manufacturer affects weapons.
Apparently Chris messed up his descriptions in the construction set.
In it he has The Edge walkers crafters as making the BEST weapons. Period. Apparently they don't. Or maybe the overall modifier is better on edge but the blunt is better on rags. Oh well.

Oh, btw, fair warning. You are about to break your game.
When you start to approach the 600-1000 dmg mark you start to bug opponents. And they can go -5467347567 into stats and still fight back.
As well as sometimes you start to heal them isntead of hurting them. It's a trick with the dmg you do getting so high it's going negative.(doing -10,000 dmg would heal someone for 10,000 hp)

I was waiting to tell Chris this because getting that high is supposed to be impossible. And it's not that big of a deal this early in the game.

I was mostly sabre class until I tried the heavy class. Now its all about the plank until the blunt weapon class opens up, then there will be prisoners. or at least a lot more unconscious people.

I love the unarmed skill, I would like to see what that skill can do at max.

I liked the topper, kitted out one of my guys with a plank though and it boosted his strength from about 4 to 20 in one fight. If I'm not mistaken the plank weighs 100kg :? Maybe it was supposed to be 10?

No, their supposed to be high like that.
All the heavy weapons are roughly around 200 lb's which is what was intended.

currently, the best thing to do is go with the katana until you get your dex to 20-30 and your attack skill to 20-30 then switch to a heavy weapon.
That way you don't have 0 dex and 5 attack skill. And attack at the speed of 1 swing to your enemies 10

Heavy Class Weapon is kinda OP. Seriously,
Once your both Defense and Attack Skill are 20+ or something.
You should be around 35-45 STR at the same time.

Basically 1 hit = 1 part of your enemy are broken/Just die.
Not to say how powerful when deals deadly dmg to muti-enemy at the same time.
Kinda easy to solo a city of police with this OP type weapon.

And yes, you need time to train it up,
DEX is not needed as your attack skill would help you boosting your attack speed as well.
High defense skill also make you won't get killed even facing a group of 30.

OP? What are you talking about, your swinging a 200 lb chunk of metal at someone, namely some untrained bandit, or your average policeman with a sword.
It's going to take them out in 2-3 swings depending where you hit.
It was supposed to be the best weapon once mastered.

You also have to take into account that with the way the game is right now, enemy squads are dying before they level up.
I was tinkering around with the global exp rates. Turns out, the enemies are not static in strength. They wont scale with the player, but if you find a dust bandit group that got luck and won the first 4-5 battles, they might get to a point where you are the only one that can take them down. They most likely will be able to hire other people as well.
So when it comes to considering whether or not something is OP.
Remember, Chris is going for realistic.(If you get hit by a katana, it's gonna suck)
It's also really early in the game.
And the plank may hit for 400, but when better armor comes in and you have other ways to resist it...
As well as, I don't know about you, but one of my guys with a katana hits for 80 on average.
