I have a really nice gaming desktop and yet when I run kenshi for more than about 10 or so minutes, the fan starts going crazy and it gets loud and it doesn't make it slow, but t sometimes will lag out and pause itself. I don't understand why this happens as I know my computer can handle it (it does skyrim on max settings). Can someone shed some light on this?

I have no idea. I have a crap ass laptop and it runs just fine. No any notable problems. Sometimes when there's a big fight I undergo some minor lag but nothing serious.

That's so weird. Well thanks for your input. I'm going to watch the processes it puts on and hopefully find the source.
hello there, i have a pretty beefy machine myself and was having a load of pathfinding and general crappy errors on AI jobs etc. which then started slowing everything down. so what i did was turn off all of the foliage and prettyfying stuff, turned down view distance a bit and then restarted the game, when i reloaded the game everything ran smooth as silk, no more hitching and no more stuck workers or pathfinding errors (for my dudes at least, Traders still seem a bit fubar'ed and stand still or walk back and forth really fast) also no more fan overdrives on my graphics card lol. give it a go and see, it does seem like its gone back 5 patches or so, but a smooth experience is a lot higher priority to me then having rocks and cacti all over the place which then move around!
The pausing sometimes is normal, is loading the map, but i guess is normal to do so, be bad or good computers, i guess because the game isnt yet configured well, i forgot the right words, it pushes a lot for it.
It s Hbrown!! Gotta get some pies!

Thank you both. Yours helped quite a bit! I had it looking as good as it allowed and wouldn't think it would make a difference. Hopefully in future releases, we can successfully use these settings to make everything look pretty.
The game isn't fully optimized yet, and because of that, can be quite harder to run than skyrim (at least skyrim after its optimization patch came out). In particular, it loves to make my gpu, nvidia gtx 690, run really hot.
Some tips for making it run better:
1. Run in full screen mode.
2. Enable vsync, this will prevent trying to post too many frames (which happens in menus) and give a buffer to your GPU.
3. Turn off anti-aliasing. Its kinda unnecessary when you run at high resolutions anyway.
4. Turn shadows down or off. Shadows take up around 1/2 to 1/3 of the processing power this game asks for. Changing your shadow settings should give a very measurable difference in performance.
Hope this helps!

Its your drivers and your GPU, sometimes you can have a older GPU of the same brand and get better results for certain games. Great examples is the NVIDIA GeForce cards. My friend has had polarizing experiences with GTX 660s vs 700+s and I couldnt figure out why. Are your drivers different than other cards, I wonder what they change, maybe they drop support for older rendering options as they "improve" the drivers.
