Hi guys,

First time posting here, I just wanted to express my concern on the infinite money bug from the traveling merchant. I know this has come up before so people are aware of spamming the merchant outside the city gives you 2k every time.

My query is (and I have only just started playing bare in mind) do the merchants actually have infinite money?

I got about 300k out of him to test the theory, I got bored after that but it would seem it was a limitless supply, is this to be expected once the game is released?

I liked the idea of a real economy, destroying a convoy takes the food away from the town awaiting the goods, therefore they have to risk there own trade, or farm more crops.

One simple act starts a chain of issues for everybody!

Merchants making money out of thin air would created an unrealistic economy, the only way an empire could rise or fall is if you directly deal with the faction via conflict. Of course this could all be lies and maybe the travelling trader had 301k on him, but you guys seem like a smashing bunch of people and I thought id just ask!

Thanks in advance

*EDIT* Changed topic header as its actually not the bug im worried about.

I don't actually know anything about the bug but as I recall all factions have limited money, so my guess would be that there is some script running to give you money as opposed to transferring it which is what provides the Infinite money. But as you can see how much money a faction has I assume they will all have limited money (otherwise there would not even be a need to keep track) so you likely have nothing to fear.

Merchants do not have infinite money so your issue is in fact a money exploit.
Adding a description of exactly how you did it to get the extra cash would be helpful and does it carry over if you reload your game?
Once you give us a description of how you're doing it and if its repeatable after reloading. could you also zip up your savegame file and upload it here.

Oh, I did a quick forum search and I found a post about the bug in question, so I assumed we all knew about it.

Ok so the bug happens when agreeing to escort the merchant from town to town. Once the merchant reaches its destination, he says "Thanks" and then he hands you the cash. You can speak with the merchant again and offer to escort him, which instantly completes the quest and he gives you another 2k cat.

You can repeat the process over, and over, and over, I ended up with over 300k in 3 minutes with this bug. The cash does carry over once you save the game and re load it, and when you exit the re open the client. (Also I think he says he will give you 1k cat, but you end up with 2k cat instead)

I tried this again last night with another wondering trader and ended up getting another 100k out of him too. Im at work at the moment, but I will upload my save in a zip for you guys later on.

Thanks

I didn't even realize Chris made the escort quest start paying out yet. Sad that its exploitable, but cool. Now I'll probably spend time escorting caravans next time I restart the game.

I thought it was common knowledge too.

Yeah last I knew it didn't pay anything that is pretty cool that it actually does, good for weak characters to make some money.

When this actually came out i thought was a fix on the bodyguard function, because to me that one always didn´t seem to work properly, and i remember see a post on it, just then i realized was this quest with the bug reports, ad is true, you told you get 1K and end up with 2K.
It s Hbrown!! Gotta get some pies!

Perhaps this should be moved to bugs section? Although the question was about the economy of the game, it would seem this may not be common knowledge.

Or somebody can start a new thread on the Bug Reports page, at least we are then doing things properly.
