Can't keep city gate locked

I finally built a wall around my outpost, and I can't seem to keep the gate locked from the inside. I built it with the green arrow pointing outward as the popup instructions told me to, but if I lock it from inside my outpost and try to walk away, my character will unlock it again before moving. If I lock it from outside the outpost and walk away, it stays locked.

Should I just build the gate with the green arrow facing in towards my outpost?

Sorry if this is still a known issue. I did some searching and only found older posts (August 2013) that mentioned it being fixed.

Edit: Also, while I was trying to get this to work, I noticed that any time I have a character dismantle a gate, he then gets stuck and can't be moved until I save and reload the game.

Walls and gates can get severely bugged right now; it is known that this is not fixed. Word is that this is being worked on.

I've noticed that it is alot better if the gates are closed with everyone inside. If you have everyone inside your city(atleast with my game) and busy with jobs, they leave the gates alone.

Either way, enemies take the gates down quick anyway.

I had everyone inside, which didn't seem to matter in my game. I ended up dismantling it and building the gate backwards, and now it works as expected. I haven't had a bandit raid since I built my walls and gate, so I haven't actually seen what the bandits will do to it yet. I have a feeling that will change very soon!

I just got tired of dealing with it and left them open.

Whats really hilarious is when cannibals, dust bandits and hungry bandits all get to my gate at the same time and I continue farming resources while watching the massive brawl ensue.

I would actually join them if that happens, you know how much that would raise your stats? Everyone will ignore you while your backstabbing them LMFAO

i have done that many times
