After a fight, many of the bandits/cannibals/creatures are knocked unconscious rather than killed. This basically leads to a prolonged bout of standing around waiting for them to get back up, so I can knock them down again and hope they die. I'd like an option added to the drop down menu to perform a killing blow on an unconscious opponent.
So whenever a character is unconscious on the ground an option for "Execute" appears in the right-click drop down menu (pick up, first aid, etc). This merely moves the character from being unconscious to being dead.
Execute Unconscious Characters

this has been requested many times.
Also it has been said by the Dev, if given the option to kill off downed people, he will also give that option to the NPC's to do the same to your squad. since the NPC is supposed to be able to do everything you can.

Do you believe the sexes should be equal?
Oh heavens no.
Then Men would become unmanageable

I've already got a Save feature and a Load feature, the NPC can have their killing blow assuming it's appropriate to the NPC in question. I don't think it should be usable during combat by either player or NPC, but I don't have an issue with NPCs killing squad members.
I'm alright having that as an option in the new/import menu, as that simple mechanic can drastically alter the gameplay difficulty.
Then again, animals are supposed to be dead than unconscious to harvest their meat, bone, and raw leather. And animals kill their prey/opposition by nature, last I recalled.
For now, let's set this feature aside until the game grows large and stable enough to support it.
NPCs will also have the option to execute, but that will depend on factors such as faction standing, etc.
While having it in the drop-down menu is nice and all, there can be a more lasting option by having a 'no quarter' checkbox. Either way, characters will just keep swinging their weapons on unconscious bodies as though they just got out of that state while stuck sleeping in bed (I have seen NPCs dead or unconscious when struck while in bed).
There's always that tidbit of a bug where people kept attacking an unconscious enemy in bed and keep whiffing their swings, only to find that their attack, strength, and dexterity are growing steadily.
I'd call for bonus toughness for characters that are injured while unconscious; fringe benefits for getting kicked while you are down.

Maybe sneak skill could make it so that your character (or a NPC) is more likely to appear dead..? Or maybe you'd need better intelligence to tell if an NPC or the NPC would need more intelligence to tell if you're dead?
Could add a layer of depth to it while including executions

The Idea is not bad as Aereto said.
Kill your own men should also be possible. Why should we do that? It's an RPG element. Maybe you have no Medkits with you, there are more bandits incoming and you don't have the time/strength to put your unconscious character with you - before he get caged or tortured, you give him his last respects.

There wouldn't be much point in the "playing dead" feature then ...
I dont think Kenshi is supposed to become some kind of hardcore survival experience where everything and everyone can deathblow your crippled bleeding wanderer anytime they knock you cold on the sand ...
It's a lot more like you try something, you get a beatdown, then you learn from that, and you prepare more, you get a partner, then you come back, you get lucky, get some cash, become more skilled, then you try again and win and you become strong and then you can RE-SHAPE the WOOORLD !!! .... Ahem ...
Anyways, my point is, killing wounded guys, even bad guys, is bad ... For predators or other wildlife, why not, but just not for humanoids ... Even the hivemen. I think it's best to let the game kill characters that are critically wounded and left without medical attention.
Also, at some point, your weapons quality and skills makes your enemies die off their wounds almost 100% of the time because no one comes to their aid and/or you have already defeated all potential reinforcements.
So why also have the ability to execute unconscious people ? I remember hard fights, only a few badly wounded survivors who would try and patch up the rest. Suddenly one or two guys of the other party wakes up and a battle of crippled losers follows. My team eventually gets knocked out, and i see the victors leaving with some of my gear and a mocking smile on their faces !
Now that is cool. Because i woke up, healed up and found those guys and made them pay and let them naked in the desert ! Oh yeah ! Sweet revenge ! :O

Yes, but in case you have dozens of bandits and animals lying in your city and getting up all the time just to be put down again and no way of getting rid of them (without hours of micromanagement) ... well, the execution feature starts to become more attractive
