Spot Light turret
I'd almost say +1 to this, but maybe it makes more sense to add spotlights to existing turrets (after appropriate research) rather than have just a manned spotlight.Haplo013 wrote:Now that we have lights in the game, I would like to see a turret mounted spot light. This would permit us to mount it in the same spots that turrets can be mounted. When manned it would aim at the nearest enemy the same as other turrets do.
In the tech tree sense, it would require a specific turret type (crossbows and harpoon turrets are two different things, as does dual or multi-barreled variants due to their mechanics-based distinctions) and swivel light research (likely a blueprint).bk3000 wrote:I'd almost say +1 to this, but maybe it makes more sense to add spotlights to existing turrets (after appropriate research) rather than have just a manned spotlight.Haplo013 wrote:Now that we have lights in the game, I would like to see a turret mounted spot light. You don't have to touch the tech tree much. You just have the lights research allow for an upgrade of the turrets you have just like you upgrade work benches. I think that is better than having dedicated manned spotting "turrets."Aereto wrote:In the tech tree sense, it would require a specific turret type (crossbows and harpoon turrets are two different things, as does dual or multi-barreled variants due to their mechanics-based distinctions) and swivel light research (likely a blueprint).bk3000 wrote:I'd almost say +1 to this, but maybe it makes more sense to add spotlights to existing turrets (after appropriate research) rather than have just a manned spotlight.Haplo013 wrote:Now that we have lights in the game, I would like to see a turret mounted spot light. That is a good and streamlined approach.bk3000 wrote:You don't have to touch the tech tree much. You just have the lights research allow for an upgrade of the turrets you have just like you upgrade work benches. I think that is better than having dedicated manned spotting "turrets."
Mechanics-wise, it would require idle sweeping to detect units in stealth at night. Once the light shines on the unit, it is as good as 'spotted' and if hostile can be fired on sight or first sign of attack. At day, no idle sweeps if light can't be turned off without shutting the turret down.
I have a design idea in mind where one turret with a light upgrade is accompanied with a non-light turret to cover its sides, thus make it difficult to make out how many turrets at night and may be attacked by multiple turrets when one turret sheds a light on someone.
Erecting a light post ahead of a gate would also deter intruders, but that's another story.
