Character Creator: Return the Asians.
Kenshi is one of my favorite games. However, the new update killed my desire to keep playing by changing my avatar to what visually looks like a caucasian man or sort of an Indian look. My character was modeled after my exact frame and face. I got it fairly close. Now, all of a sudden I update and its not even kind of me anymore. Its like someone took a white guys face and pasted it onto my body. It was infuriating. I couldn't even come close to my face anymore.
I tried pushing through and just enjoying the gameplay, but every time I saw his face I got filled with hate and wanted to feed him to a Leviathan.
One of the reasons I really loved this game is that I had an insane amount of freedom to design my characters. I hate playing as males in most games because they are tall bulky Caucasians. I'm a short, stocky Asian. I want to play as a short stocky Asian. Kenshi provided me with that fix and then took it away.
I understand that the models were simplified to have the game run smoother, but still. I should have more choices than White or Shek.

Now I get you liking to have a character creator that lets you make things look how you want, but your motivation here is... just wrong. I don't quite get the fixation on race.
I just hit random on everyone. I don't care about the gender nor skin color of anyone in my squads. I guess I'm not picky but it won't affect game play at all. Their ability is all that matters. Put armor on them and you won't even see much of what they look like anyhow.
I'm a mostly white guy (aside from having a Native American great grandmother) but I don't think twice about playing games with Asian, African, or whatever protagonists. I don't mind playing games where that protagonist is a woman. You can make me an extra-terrestrial and I'm just as happy. The same applies to people in real life. I don't hesitate to associate with those that look different than me. WHO they are is far more important than WHAT they are.
Your post is honestly a bit disturbing. Particularly about the part of being fill with hatred at seeing the face of a man not of your race. I understand there is a bit of primal tribalist instinct in all mankind to hate anything different than yourself, but mankind also has the ability to overcome such base instinct and to interpret the world with reason. Your racial hatred has no place in the modern age and you should be severely ashamed of it.
The best cure for bigotry that I might suggest is to acquire friends that are different from you, so that experience might teach you to see them... to be just as human as you are.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you, bk3000, have completely and utterly misinterpreted Abek's post. From what I understand, he wants to play as himself. He's not saying anything about bigotry or hating any race/sex/etc.. He had created his character, himself, in Kenshi, and in prior versions was able to make his face, body, etc. all well and good. The new update came out removing his capability to make himself in the game as is stated here:
Your lack of reading comprehension has no place in the modern age and you should be severely ashamed of it. Misinformation spreads more than fast nowadays. It's just that he's no longer able to recreate himself in-game as he once could before. There's no bigotry, no hatred, etc. about it. He just wants to make himself, damn it.
and here:Now, all of a sudden I update and its not even kind of me anymore. Its like someone took a white guys face and pasted it onto my body. It was infuriating. I couldn't even come close to my face anymore.
Now, as you said that you don't get the fixation on race, the faces selection in Kenshi have different archetypal meshes and textures. This effectively acts as a "race-within-a-race", that being outside of the Shek/human current dichotomy, and prevents making any face you want, as you'd be able to with a ball of putty. The Asian face disappeared and that archetype was lost. If he tries to recreate, as I have done many times, it either looks very awkward and odd, or it doesn't work at all.One of the reasons I really loved this game is that I had an insane amount of freedom to design my characters. I hate playing as males in most games because they are tall bulky Caucasians. I'm a short, stocky Asian. I want to play as a short stocky Asian. which isn't automatically so bad except...Abek wrote:I hate playing as males in most games because they are tall bulky Caucasians.

I wish you where right and I where wrong, but this part makes clear that just is not so. Your interpretation only fits when completely ignoring this. Do you really intend to argue that he simply didn't mean what he said?
Remember back when GTA: San Andreas was released and you had certain "not racist" people raging about the playable character? How they "hated to even look at him" let alone play him? That's what you have here... with slightly different details.
Alright, how about I cover that in my interpretation?
Every time he saw his face he became filled with hatred, yes? That phrase only mentions his face, not any other features. But, let's include that for completeness's sake.
He made a character he liked as it was him, the short, stocky Asian he stated he was, but there was trouble in paradise, or at least as much of paradise you can get in the harsh, uncaring desert bluffs, and no longer was he 'him'. His self-insert was no more. Himself in Kenshi was no more, and this makes sense.
It's the exact thing as if you took a photo with your friends, perhaps at a party or something. Then, the friend who took it goes over it in and changes how you look. Perhaps giving you a tan, perhaps a mustache, perhaps making your head a cone, etc.. The changes could be minor or major, but one thing still stands: that's not you any more in the photo. And if it wasn't done in jovial spirits or consent or just as an inside joke, I'd hate it. I'd really hate it. If they were going around saying that this was me, however different the photo "me" looks from me, there'd be trouble. There'd be hate. There'd be hatred. But would I be a bigot against people with beards or mustaches or long hair or tans? Nay, I'd be a bigot against the "me" in the photo.
Now, Kenshi is not Internet connected, nor does anyone see your character unless you show them. But the same is true with other games. Take for instance, Oblivion: I always hated that I couldn't make anything near me as everyone had too much of a potato head, even with gratuitous adjustment and mods and etc. Did it stifle my enjoyment of Oblivion and other games of that character creation ilk? A little. It wasn't too much of a problem, but still took me out of the game a little. The same is true for Saints Row, The Sims, Dark Souls, etc. really any game with a character creator.
Now, Abek's reaction of a bit extreme, I'll admit, and I don't sympathize as much, but perhaps because I'm not faced with the same issues that he is. In many cases, I'm more-or-less fine with the protagonist in games with a static one. Deus Ex, I didn't care. JC Denton was a cool guy, and though there was minimal level of customization, I didn't try to play it as me. And it was helped that it was linear and had a story to follow, all surrounding Denton. Yet, in much more free-form games -- Kenshi, Oblivion, etc. -- I'd much rather be able to play myself. Kenshi especially as there's no real goal except to survive, thrive. In a game like XCOM: UFO Defense, however, everyone is working towards a common goal, and chances are very likely that my recruits will die prior to me becoming attached to them. And this thought is well aided by the lack of character creation.
Now, this is all just anecdotal half-evidence, but, too, is the original post and discussion. Whether Abek is racist or not, chances are we'll never know. But you can dislike, even hate, a specific thing or in a specific circumstance without being a bigot. I hate writing with pen and paper, but I love it when I can make a whole plot appear on digital paper without turning my wrist into liquid. Do I hate writing in general? No, only on paper and when I've writer's block. If a dog bites me, do I hate all dogs from that day forward? No, only that brave soul that took a nibble upon me. If everything I grow in a garden quickly withers and dies, do I hate the gardening? No, only when it is fruitless and futile. Etc., etc., etc..
I don't know. But I do know I wrote too much. I'm sorry.

Heya , Hate to be the third guy that put things straight but ,
Your interpretation not gonna make progress the problem even a bit.
I know that the guy probably don't like non asian people be it in game or not , but why do we even care ? it is not like he is throwing insult everywhere. So lets keep the thing on topic and see what we can do (And us as non devs , probably nothing

I'd like to clarify my previous post. It seems I was misunderstood. Velsphar is correct when he states that my fury stems from what I consider a mutilation of my avatar. I want to feed him to a leviathan not because he's white, but because he feels like an abomination. I really do just want to play as myself in Kenshi. Had I had no options to create myself from the beginning, I would have created an entirely new character. Probably some tall, white, attractive female like I do in most games that allow character creation but prevent me from creating as close enough a facsimile to accept as myself.
When I play video games, I use the term she/he when referring to a character like Kratos or FemShep. I say, "Yeah, it was awesome! Renegade Shep stabbed him in the back with an electrowrench! She's badass." I don't care what my protagonist looks like either, I love the epic things they do. But in some games, the open world sandbox games especially, I always love being able to think in terms of I. Me. I did this. I slaughtered a thousand cannibals and took a trophy selfie standing amidst their corpses. I built an army and I built an empire. And then I update and it's like, "Who is this guy? No, uh uh. He didn't do that. He doesn't deserve those stats or that gear. It wasn't him, it was me. Why is he the commander of my army of completely racially diver- oh wait, now they're all bleached white. Dang. That's not cool. I better go on the internet and complain because that fixes things."
I understand that perhaps my reaction is a little extreme and perhaps I'm the only person who cares about having multiple races to choose from. If anything, my post is the opposite of racist. I want the character creator to allow us to choose where our character comes from.
Lastly, I'd like to mention that bk3000 is the kind of sanctimonious penguin that drives me insane. To say, "I'm white, but I have a great grandmother who was Native American" Why would you even mention that? For all intents and purposes, you're white. Are you trying to play on some sort of diverse heritage to give yourself a soapbox to preach to me from? I know that it's what's inside that counts, you brain damaged albatross.

In the end it comes down to the fact that the game is still in development and things change and get added as it moves along. Sucks that you can no longer make the character you want, but that's the nature of things that are still WiP. This whole thread is an unnecessary amount of drama over spilt milk.
Either hold off playing until they add it back, or quit ranting over something they obviously don't have in right now. Devs aren't stupid and at no point said that these will be the only and finaly faces/races to be in the final game.

Hello,
Sorry for asking the obvious but as it was never even discussed, did you tried to make him again via plastic surgery ?
Personnaly I go the giant hot chick way, have some of them asian typed and I am satisfied with the results (being colorblind may help).
Of course doing a generic hot chick face is usually easier than doing your own face.
Cheers

I know in some aspects the old character customization was better, for example, now all previously created characters have the same face, same hair color and weird body position (giraffee neck, kyphosis....). Well, and characters had smoother skin.
You can give your opinion but without rampage.

I'm very happy right now. I want to go back and apologize for any rampaging. Changes to the character editor have been made and I managed to remake my avatar. It looks even more like me than before! It's fantastic. Additionally, the idle poses allow for a greater customization of personality.
I know that it's been brought up already, but I'd like to second the ability to change and select eye color independently of complexion.
Cheers!

The creator has indeed evolved to more possibilities. the only major downfall is the limited number of face "skins", but that has been said that that's only that way for now. It's likely they'll add more, as discussions have been had with the dev responsible for that part of it.Abek wrote:I'm very happy right now. I want to go back and apologize for any rampaging. Unfortunately the entire overlay of the face is a single texture image, without the exclusion of the eyes. It's all one image. So changing the color of eyes will not be possible...

one concern i have, is that you can turn a human into a bone person, if you know where to look in the editor.
When the different races start having special abilities, like not dying in the tar sands, then this opens up the potential for exploits.
like, everyone becomes a bone person for a bit, while we muck about in the tar sands, then when we are done, back to being people...
Then again, i would love to see more inventory slots, and maybe even a cybernetic implant screen.
so i can implant harsh environment survival implants...

hm... i kinda wanna be a mad scientist implanting people with random hardware some sadistic some helpful..an see what happens:D
hopefully the 'special abilities' hold true to their race and don't follow the eventual fan demands to make them just absolutely silly.

Are you talking about the character creator, or the ingame editor/fcs? If you can do that in the core game without editing, then that's a bug that needs to be fixed. But if it's in regards to the editor/fcs, then it doesn't matter.philthymcnasty wrote:one concern i have, is that you can turn a human into a bone person, if you know where to look in the editor.

Right now, I sometimes beat up large groups of dust and hungry bandits and give them Edge 5 weapons and armor while they're unconscious. It would be even better if they could wake up with bionic claws and laser eyes.
I don't know what he/she is referring to, but I do know you can import a human body onto a Shek character and vice versa through a plastic surgeon using the import button.Zeal wrote:Are you talking about the character creator, or the ingame editor/fcs? I am looking forward to more faces. My group is suppose to consist of people from the age of 8 to 80. I got the 8 year old close to right, just need fatter cheeks. But there really isn't a wrinkly face, so my old people have to hide in face gear.

Yeah, we definitely need more face meshes. Although, it would be fantastic if we could get age sliders along with complexion options just like in Mount and Blade. Combined with the height sliders this would give all the options of age, ethnicity, etc.,Izuela wrote:I am looking forward to more faces.
