thanks for the update.
i must have missed it.
then that would also mean each player character will have their own credits maybe?
could be interesting for sure.

That's an assumption that "inventory money" means a conversion of the currency to an inventory item. It very well could mean that there could be an item that has a worth, that you can store in your inventory, and trade it off back and fourth. Like gold. Gold was never actual money, but it's used as a physical money value. You could also consider it cash verses a debit card.Chompster wrote:Looks like things have changed in that regard then, since on their Trello page there's a card for making money an inventory item.Hatsune_Neko wrote:looting money has been talked about extensively. and pretty much won't happen last i knew.

I also highly advise everyone to go through their Trello page, A LOT of really cool things to come in there and a lot of them things people have been suggesting. Maybe even make a sticky thread here and in General Discussion linking to it so people can check it before posting.
I keep forgetting to ask about this. thanks for reminding me.

Gold, and Silver, and Copper/Bronze.
were all used as currency, they were melted and turned into coins an used as the main currency ..'technically' its still the currency of the world, what we use as paper currency is more like 'IOU's than actual 'money'.
but its been that way for so long that it has become a 'currency' . but your still more or less trading the promise of gold. Paper money will persist though because its lighter. easier to carry...and can be minted alot faster than metallic coins.
Course producing lots of currency quickly isn't necessarily a good thing. but :p thats a more complex topic <.<
though one reason we don't use them as much is , i doubt theres enough 'gold' or other metal to give to some people o.o after all those few trillion , or billionaires would make it quite difficult o.o just imagine how many trucks it'd take assuming you could find enough gold to equal that much..
though i'm not sure how one would measure the conversion rate of the debt notes. but thats a government problem.
hm.. idk that seems like an even more of an assumption, to the point that it's almost grasping as there is nothing pointing that it would another type of resource that's used as a currency. If it were, I have feeling they would have just outright said so and not vaguely label it as "money"Zeal wrote:That's an assumption that "inventory money" means a conversion of the currency to an inventory item. So i feel it's much safer to assume that they'll make money(cats, right?) an actual entity you can take from someones inventory(which Chris i believe talked about in that old reddit AMA) and maybe even have it be per character based apposed to the burrent hivemind shared wallet.
But who knows, maybe you are right. We'll have to wait and see or if the devs have anything to chime in with.
We don't even know what form cats take. It would be cool if cats had a physical presence in Kenshi. For example: coins, bars, and blocks. Each of these would have a corresponding weight and value. A coin would be a 1 x 1 that would stack to 1000. It would have no weight and be worth 1 Cat. A bar would be a 2 x 1 object that would stack to 20. They'd have a weight of 1 and be worth 1,000 cats. A block would be a 2 x 3 object that would stack to 5. They'd have a weight of 5 and be worth 20,000 cats. What do ya'll think?Chompster wrote:hm.. idk that seems like an even more of an assumption, to the point that it's almost grasping as there is nothing pointing that it would another type of resource that's used as a currency. personally currency being a physical entity with weight i think would be a good thing. -so long as they add wagons -
because it'd make being a bandit a possible thing. sneaking into stores an taking money from chests. robbing caravans without having to murder anyone. you could even 'escort' a caravan an during the fight you could try stealing the cats during the fight.

I support this. They can make the pack gar lootable maybe. Maybe the pack gar pulls a wagon? They would have to include a new crime system which triggers combat if they catch you stealing in their LoS. I want that to be a thing. Otherwise, why bother breaking into stores?Chinsei wrote:personally currency being a physical entity with weight i think would be a good thing. -so long as they add wagons -

It's less of an assumption when you recall the devs mentioning that currency would stay a number, and not become a physical item. But, firstly, I could be remembering wrong.. Secondly.. People can change their minds. I guess we'll find out in the end.Chompster wrote:hm.. idk that seems like an even more of an assumption, to the point that it's almost grasping as there is nothing pointing that it would another type of resource that's used as a currency. Leviathan Blubber and Beak Thing Hides
So I hear that at some point we're going to require oil or some other fuel source in order to power our generators. Right now I place them in circles around the wind generators and pretend they pull power from it.
When the oil comes in we'll need some oil rigs, but how about we fill the leviathans with them too? Let's make those leviathans full of lootable oil. Like a stack of 150 oil. Imagine a faction based around hunting beasties. A bigger hunting company could set small outposts to monitor their movements and prepare for the hunt.
A leviathan hunt would be a thing of great majesty. Especially if you tried it without any Super(stats in the 70+ range) characters.
Likewise, leather should come from animals. It's often the case that leather is found in animal nests. This doesn't make a whole lot of sense. It's a finished product. You might as well be able to loot leather jackets from those nests. These animals should drop hides and you should find hides in the nests instead of leather. Hide combined with fabric should create leather at the smithing station. By the very definition of leather, it should not be craftable with fabric alone.

the leather not in the animals might be a coding thing. or its waiting to be implemented after the new world map is added.
we know a lot of content is waiting for that.

Yes yes, i know. That's what I was responding to. It does not say currency conversion to inventory item. It says adding an inventory money, which could mean several different things. ;pAbek wrote:It's on the Trello under Mike's listZeal wrote:

You know I actually "found" one of those items in my inventory already, and I don't have any idea how it came to be in there. It must have glitched into my possession.Chompster wrote:since on their Trello page there's a card for making money an inventory item.
t says, "Money Inventory item."Zeal wrote:

To be fair, it's tagged under GUI so maybe there will be a separate inventory money value, but I don't think that's what that means.
Screenshots, please! It must have happened during one of the major updates where inventory items got a little bit warped!bk3000 wrote: You know I actually "found" one of those items in my inventory already, and I don't have any idea how it came to be in there. I screwed up actually. One of the previous updates made my fonts all but unreadable. One of my items - modded in - is now somehow 1x1 on the grid. I misread what it was and thought it was money. I thought it said caps (clearly thinking of fallout instead of Kenshi) instead of cape. DOH! So I don't have the money item as I thought.Abek wrote:Screenshots, please! Dismantling returns building materials
It should be the case that when we dismantle our own structures by hand, we get a proportion of our building materials back equal to our engineering skill with a cap of 100% efficiency. Obviously, even though engineering can go over 100% efficiency we shouldn't be able to receive more. That would be funny though, "Where'd you get that extra plank?" "I dunno, I'm a really good engineer."
It would make temporary shacks viable as well as portable emplacement turrets. That would pretty much eliminate my desire for any ranged weapons. You could set up a couple MKII crossbow gunners before a battle starts and just fire away.

Realistically no matter how skilled the engineer, you won't get much back from dismantling a structure. Think about it - in the coarse of building things you cut materials down to the size you need at that moment. You can't uncut them. Then you have things like nail/screw holes in the material. Concrete cannot be reshaped (or realistically even moved). Bricks and Mortar can't be separated without breaking them apart.Abek wrote:Dismantling returns building materials

You can salvage the metal most of all - the sheets of it should be fairly standardized and might get reused in your next project. Otherwise you melt it down and reform it. When it comes to things like crossbows, yes you could obviously just remove them and reattach them somewhere else.
I suppose my point is largely invalidated by the fact that all things are built from "building materials" which are basically just stone. Perhaps there is little point to worrying over realistic dismantling when the building process itself is so unrealistic.
Bahahaha, I totally agree with everything you're saying. You pretty much went through my entire thought process in your post. Like, the beds we sleep on are made out of stone. Sleeping on the freakin' sand would be more restful that on beds made from stone.bk3000 wrote: Realistically no matter how skilled the engineer, you won't get much back from dismantling a structure. but hopefully the building materials become a bit more diverse it'd help the economy also add in more trade items. to me having enough diversity in materials to make trade relavent would be nice. being self sufficent isn't a bad thing but in games it can get boring since once you have everything theres not much reason to do anything else. so i think it should be really hard to become so. and a diversity in needing lots of things would help.
I'm with you with sleeping on the floors. I'm not with you with sleeping on marble floors or tile. I've woken up hungover in too many bathrooms to find that relaxing.Chinsei wrote:

Agreed on diversified building materials. When crafting, different items will need different amounts of each material. You could implement something similar into buildings. They'd need 50/50 building materials, 20/20 glass, 40/40 fibrewood, and so on. Glass would require a glass kiln and fibrewood could be made from wheatstraw when put through a processor.
However, I think you could do without some materials. Because it wouldn't make much sense to be forced to use glass and put it windows before the house became functional. You could easily have a house with windows.
Maybe the system becomes modular. You can use building materials to make a building. But that building will have no door. No stairs. No windows. And then adding those things in would cost materials. God, a modular building system would be amazing. Being able to attach and connect structures. This needs to be a suggestion.
